High School/Local College Sports Roundup for Oct. 11, 2012

Girls Volleyball

No. 2 Marist 25-25, Bishop McNamara 12-15: Mallory Salis notched nine service points, nine digs, seven kills and six aces in sparking visiting Marist (22-5, 8-0) in the East Suburban Catholic.

No. 5 Sandburg 25-25, Homewood-Flossmoor 19-22: Paige Bendell smashed 13 kills to lift visiting Sandburg (20-8, 5-0) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue. Kassie Wallace had 19 assists for Homewood-Flossmoor (20-8, 2-3).

No. 8 Lockport 21-25-30, Joliet Central 25-12-28: Kayla Pfeiffer finished with 19 assists, 15 digs, nine kills and three aces in leading visiting Lockport (19-8, 3-2) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue. Katie Dugan added 18 digs for the Porters, while Aubrey Ficek posted 11 digs and eight kills.

No. 9 Marian Catholic 25-25, Nazareth 22-14: Amber Clay (15 kills, 9 digs) and Colleen Rynne (27 assists, 7 digs) propelled host Marian Catholic (22-6, 7-1) in the East Suburban Catholic.

No. 10 Shepard 25-30, Richards 17-28: Ellie Smykowski notched three kills for host Shepard (15-4, 11-0) in the South Suburban Red. Richards fell to 13-8, 7-5.

Lemont 25-25, Tinley Park 12-14: Megan Litoborski passed out 17 assists and Kiley Rendak spiked seven kills to lead visiting Lemont (19-9, 10-1) in the South Suburban Blue. Lindsay Lannen had five kills for Tinley Park (13-20-1, 6-7).

T.F. South 25-25, T.F. North 17-14: Abbe Mullen totaled 21 assists and Cori Reynolds tacked on nine service points to pace visiting T.F. South (19-6, 10-2) in the South Suburban Blue.

Oak Forest 25-25, Hillcrest 8-17: Kate Zickus dished out 21 assists and Kathy Flanagan slammed 11 kills for host Oak Forest (14-14, 5-6) in the South Suburban Blue.

Rich Central 25-18-25, Crete-Monee 17-25-19: Daivonya High contributed 13 assists and 10 kills to spark host Rich Central (10-14, 7-2) in the Southland. Timesha Tyler chipped in 12 digs for the Olympians.

Andrew 25-25, Thornridge 4-8: Kelsey Lafin’s six kills guided visiting Andrew (7-19, 2-4) in the SouthWest Suburban Red.

Ag. Science 25-25, Mount Assisi 16-21: Carly Trinley provided eight kills and three blocks for visiting Ag. Science (15-5).

Evergreen Park 25-25, Reavis 16-21: Chelsea Christopher and Colleen Burns had 20 digs apiece for visiting Evergreen Park (11-16, 4-7) in the South Suburban Red. Emma Przeslicke added six kills for the Mustangs.

Oak Lawn 25-25, Eisenhower 16-23: Rachel Kestian’s 10 assists and Haley Hiljus’ nine digs spearheaded visiting Oak Lawn (21-4, 11-2) in the South Suburban Red.

Beecher 25-25, Tri-Point 23-10: Katie Wilkoz chalked up nine assists and five digs for host Beecher (15-7, 10-0) in the River Valley.

Boys Soccer

Lockport 3, Joliet West 0: Christian Czaja (7 saves) recorded his first shutout in guiding visiting Lockport (7-11-3, 4-2) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue. Louis Halper was among the goal scorers for the Porters.

Stagg 2, Lincoln-Way North 0: Goals by Dino Karas and Beto Torres enabled host Stagg (11-6-2, 5-1) to earn a share of the SouthWest Suburban Red championship. Erick Estrada stopped four shots in securing his ninth shutout.

Andrew 1, Lincoln-Way West 0 (SO): Glorind Lisha and Jesus Mendez scored for host Andrew (12-6-2, 3-3), which won the SouthWest Suburban Red match by holding a 4-3 edge in the penalty-kick shootout. Lincoln-Way West fell to 12-8-3, 4-2.

Women’s Volleyball

St. Xavier 25-25-25, Trinity International 15-13-22: Kelly Knudsen contributed 13 kills and nine digs to pace visiting St. Xavier (21-5, 11-1) in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference.
