Maggie O’Loughlin, of Marist cross country, moved up to 22nd (17 minutes, 26 seconds) at last year’s Class 3A state meet after finishing 77th (18:02) at Detweiller Park as a sophomore.
She was third at the Oct. 13 East Suburban Catholic Conference meet.
How’s the season going?
Pretty good. At the Wheaton Invitational (Sept. 29) I ran my best this season, 17:30. The Wheaton course is harder than the state course. There’s more ruts and a forest part and some inclines.
Decided on a college?
I’m still trying to narrow it down. Marquette, Butler and Dayton — I visited Marquette and Butler. Marquette, I liked the homeyness. It’s not huge, but it’s not super small. The same for Butler. It was super pretty.
Favorite leisure activities?
I like to bake. Or read. Over the summer I read a couple of books. One was “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.’’
Favorite sports team?
The Blackhawks. Unfortunately, they’ve been in a lockout. Hopefully, that will be over soon. My family is really big on hockey. I’ll watch it with my dad when I have time.
Favorite music?
I’m a big fan of country. I don’t really have a favorite artist.
Favorite TV show?
“Pretty Little Liars.’’ It’s about these four girls who have a ton of secrets and uncovering secrets.
Favorite food?
Steak. I haven’t had it in a while.
What will you remember most about high school?
Working hard in the classes I struggled in in order to get good grades. The people I met and the friends I made.
Who’s the one person you’d like to meet?
Steve Prefontaine. He died in a car accident. I’d ask him what it took to push himself all the time. He was one of the greatest distance runners.
As told to Tim Tierney
