Class 3A Reavis Regional
Reavis 1, Marist 0 (OT): Kamil Szczesniak’s goal enabled Reavis (18-7) to capture its first regional title since 2005. Rafal Slomba made 12 saves in notching his fifth shutout. Marist closed 14-8-4.
Class 2A Lincoln-Way West Regional
Lincoln-Way West 2, Peotone 0: Ryan Curry set up Ian McGrath for both goals as Lincoln-Way West (14-8-3) won the championship. Tony Prospero and Mason McGowan combined for the shutout.
Class 2A Marian Catholic Regional
Tinley Park 1, Marian Catholic 0: Mikey Swierczewski scored off an assist from Bobby Neylon to give Tinley Park (13-12-1) its first regional crown ever. Marian Catholic finished 9-14-3.
Class 2A St. Laurence Regional
St. Laurence 2, St. Rita 1: Alejandro Unzueta and Alex Rodriguez scored for St. Laurence (13-7-1) in the championship game.
GCAC Red Tournament: Michelle Konecki had 17 assists and nine digs for No. 1 Mother McAuley (30-4), which lost to St. Ignatius 25-18, 15-25, 25-23 in the championship at Queen of Peace. Ryann DeJarld (11 digs) and Kennedy Arundel (8 digs) added nine kills for the Mighty Macs, who also received 21 digs from Carla Cahill. In the semifinal, Courtney Joyce contributed 12 assists and five digs in leading McAuley to a 25-9, 25-18 win over De La Salle.
GCAC White Tournament: Kathleen Miller had 37 assists as host Queen of Peace won both of its matches, the last a 25-13, 25-8 decision over St. Benedict in the championship. Katie Hannon and Missy Quero added 18 kills apiece for the Pride, which topped St. Joseph 25-13, 25-10 in the semifinal.
Boys Cross Country
Class 3A Andrew Regional: Homewood-Flossmoor’s Matt Anyiwo (15:53) edged Thornwood’s Reggie Brown (15:59) for first place at Turtlehead Lake. Lincoln-Way East’s Luke Johnston (16:01), Thornwood’s Jesse Unzueta (16:09) and Lincoln-Way East’s Ben Walczak (16:10) rounded out the top five. Thornwood (37) won the team crown ahead of runner-up Lincoln-Way East (44). Also advancing to the sectional were Lincoln-Way North (84), Andrew (106), Homewood-Flossmoor (125), Thornton (167) and Bloom (192).
Class 3A Lockport Regional: Will Giroux (16:34) was the top runner for Lockport (123), which qualified for the sectional after placing fifth at Dellwood Park.
Class 3A Lyons Regional: Robert Castilo (17:05) was one of five individual sectional qualifiers for Argo.
Class 3A Minooka Regional: Lincoln-Way Central (38) won first place at Channahon Community Park. The Knights were led by Dru Rozewicki (15:40), who finished third.
Class 2A De La Salle Regional: Mount Carmel’s Dan O’Keefe (16:27) was the medalist in pacing the Caravan (76) to a second-place finish.
Class 2A Illiana Christian Regional: Illiana Christian’s Tony Wondaal (16:06.27) won by a small margin over teammates Kevin Vroegh (16:06.61) and Nick Fiene (16:06.92) at North Creek Meadow in Lansing. Illiana (15) also was the top team. Other squads moving on to the sectional were Bremen (77), Oak Forest (110), Marian Catholic (117), Thornridge (143), Tinley Park (147) and Hillcrest (175).
Class 2A Morris Regional: Providence’s Steve Sismelich (16:07) was the top finisher. Lincoln-Way West (32) won the meet (32), Providence (101) was fourth and Crete-Monee (158) sixth.
Class 2A Riverside-Brookfield Regional: Matt Przeslicke (16:56.3) finished fifth in propelling Evergreen Park (79) to a second-place showing. St. Rita (93) was third and St. Laurence (154) sixth, both squads advancing to the sectional.
Class 2A Wheaton Academy Regional: Aaron Oldanie (16:33) sparked Lemont (85), which made it to the sectional after placing third.
Class 1A Bishop McNamara Regional: Grant Nykaza (14:52) was the top runner in guiding Beecher (51) to a first-place finish at Kankakee Community College.
Girls Cross Country
Class 3A Andrew Regional: Samantha Ostmann (18:59) and Kaley McLawhorn (19:09) were the top two runners in guiding Lincoln-Way East (27) to the title at Turtlehead Lake. Bloom’s Gina Narcisi (19:28) was third, followed by Lincoln-Way North teammates Abby Casey (19:32) and Carly Marchal (19:35). Remaining teams qualifying for the sectional were Lincoln-Way (47), Andrew (94), Thornton (122), Homewood-Flossmoor (127), Bloom (173) and Marian Catholic (176).
Class 3A Lockport Regional: Lockport (38) won the team title thanks to Bianca Wiemeyer (19:48), who was fifth.
Class 3A Lyons Regional: Argo (194) secured the seventh and final spot in the sectional. Jocelyn Camacho (20:26) was the top finisher for the Argonauts.
Class 3A Minooka Regional: Alena Pacheco (18:57) was sixth and Elizabeth Venezio (18:57) seventh as Lincoln-Way Central (59) advanced to the sectional after finishing third at Channahon Community Park.
Class 2A Illiana Christian Regional: Illiana Christian (16) won first place and also produced the top four runners at North Creek Meadow in Lansing. Alexa Beezhold (19:04) won the race, besting teammates Kristen Brink (19:15), Lauren Brink (19:34) and Alex Clausing (19:51). Runner-up Oak Forest (79) moved on to the sectional along with Tinley Park (79), Hillcrest (84) and Bremen (103).
Class 2A Morris Regional: Lincoln-Way West’s Natalie Waters (18:15) topped Crete-Monee’s Chasity Powell (19:24) for first place. Providence (44) was the winner in the team standings, Lincoln-Way West (56) was second and Crete-Monee (130) fifth. Seventh-place Rich South (182) also qualified for the sectional.
Class 2A Riverside-Brookfield Regional: Leeza Campbell (21:57.6) led the way for Evergreen Park (116), which finished fourth.
Class 2A Wheaton Academy Regional: Claire Gagen (18:58) was the top individual for Lemont (124), which made it to the sectional by placing fifth.
Class 1A Aurora Christian Regional: Chicago Christian’s Breanna Kooiman (20:16.5) was an individual qualifer to the sectional along with Queen of Peace teammates Karina Favela (20:27.8) and Lauren Crotty (20:28.1).
Class 1A Bishop McNamara Regional: Theresa Hoge (20:24) and Jade Dooley (20:25) were fourth and fifth, respectively, as Beecher (48) placed second overall.
St. Xavier 3, Roosevelt 0: Kyle Held (5 saves) recorded his sixth shutout for St. Xavier (11-4-1, 7-1-1) in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference. Tom Lojek, Lorenzo Savino and Brandon Simoes netted goals for the Cougars at Toyota Park.
St. Xavier 4, Roosevelt 1: Danielle Inzinga had one goal and one assist for St. Xavier (10-5-1, 6-3) in the CCAC match at Toyota Park.
