Amanda Moran, a junior with Lockport swimming, finished fifth at the state meet in the 100-yard backstroke (57.68 seconds) as a sophomore.

She missed qualifying as a freshman by .2 of a second in the backstroke.

Have any postseason goals?

I want to get top five or better at state because I got fifth last year. Our team goal is to finish a music video. If we don’t do that, I’ll be disappointed. It’s Taylor Swift’s “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.” It will be really funny and really good.

How did that idea come about?

At the beginning of the year we heard the song and really loved it, started dancing to it at practice. We thought of getting together and doing these cool underwater scenes. It should be good.

What was the experience like swimming at state your first two years?

Last year gave me a lot more confidence than I had before. Freshman year, I was doubting myself, even in club season, and after missing the state cut I had even less confidence. Sophomore year I went 58 seconds the second or third meet, and I knew I had it. There was no way I wasn’t going to final at state. That gave me so much more confidence coming into this year.

Fans don’t know that swimming ...

It takes up my whole entire life. I swim every day except Sunday. We go and do “your” workout before we swim. We’re running, doing stairs, lifting weights, then go and swim. We do two practices at the same intensity as everyone else does one.

What reality show would be fun to be a cast member on?

I couldn’t be on “Jersey Shore” because I’m too pale.

Favorite sports movie?

“Stick It,” the gymnastics one. It’s so funny. I love it.

Do you have a dream school?

I’m still early in the process, but I think whoever wants me, and I love their school, that will be my dream school. I can’t really say yet.

As told to Tim O’Brien
