Augustana College midfielder Taylor Moesle was named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin’s Player of the Week in women’s soccer for the period ending Oct. 21.
Moesle, who prepped at Sandburg, guided the Vikings to a 4-2 victory Oct. 18 over nationally ranked host Wartburg and to a 3-2 decision Oct. 20 over visiting North Central College.
The senior finished the week with two goals and two assists. Moesle scored the first goal of the game against Wartburg and later added an assist.
The Orland Park resident followed that with a goal and assist against North Central. Moesle’s assist came on a goal by freshman Somer Druszkowski (Lincoln-Way Central) that made the score 2-0 at 19:46. Moesle scored less than a minute later at 20:34.
On the season, Moesle has 10 goals and 10 assists for 30 points. Her 30 points are second on the team and tied for eighth-best in school history. In addition, the two-time Viking Offensive MVP is rising in the career charts at Augustana.
Moesle’s 38 goals are fourth-most in Vikings history and she ranks second in assists (27) and fourth in points (103).
The women’s tennis program at Moraine Valley Community College garnered its share of accolades for the 2012 season.
Sophomore Nicole Selvaggio (Marist) was named the National Junior College Athletic Association Region IV Player of the Year as well as the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference Player of the Year for the second consecutive season.
Selvaggio is the first regional and/or Moraine Valley athlete to accomplish the feat.
“Quite frankly, this is the best individual-sport athlete we have ever had in Moraine Valley athletics history,” Moraine Valley women’s tennis coach and athletic director Bill Finn said in a statement. “She is team leader, a great captain for the team, is very focused on the court, and outworks her opponents.”
In addition to Selvaggio, several of her Cyclones teammates also were honored.
Joining Selvaggio on the All-Region IV Team were Raquel Bowen-Grant (Stagg) at No. 5 singles, Kayla Annerino (Oak Lawn) at No. 6 singles, Shayna Binette (Andrew), who teamed with Selvaggio at No. 1 doubles, and Alexandra Armon (Andrew), who competed at No. 3 doubles with Annerino.
Named to the All-Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference Team were Annerino, Binette, Bowen-Grant and Selvaggio.
Moraine Valley finished its season 8-0 overall and 5-0 in conference.
