Boys Bowling: Lincoln-Way Central sweeps past Oak Forest

After a couple of down seasons, Lincoln-Way Central sees brighter days ahead in 2012-13.
The Knights got off to a good start Tuesday, topping Oak Forest 1,893-1,634 in the season opener for both teams at Laraway Lanes in New Lenox.
Junior Nick Kross led Central, posting the top two-game series of the night with a 407. He also had the high game, firing a 222 in the opener.
The Knights won both games in the match, 935-884 and 958-750.
“It was a good confidence-builder, and everyone needs that,” Kross said. “I have a lot of excitement and hope for this team.”
Kross was kicking off his third season on the varsity team.
“The experience definitely helps a lot,” he said. “I’m the veteran, I feel like I’m a leader for the other guys.”
Central has experience on its side as a whole as well. Tuesday, the Knights started Kross, seniors Ryan Fremgen (383 series) and Chris Clark (370) along with junior Seth Gajdorus (365) — another three-year varsity performer — and freshman Jake Keagle (368).
“We have a lot of experience, and Jake has been a nice surprise as a freshman,” Knights coach Ken Fiore said. “I was pleased with how we did. We had some nice games on the practice lanes (from bowlers not competing in the varsity match). It’s nice to have six or seven good bowlers. It’ll my job a bit tougher, but that’s good.”
Junior Lee Wanatowicz led the Bengals with a 376 series, including a team-best 212 in the opener.
“Lee did a nice job leading us,” Oak Forest coach Kevin Donegan said. “We’re going to look to keep getting better. We’ve got to be consistent with our release. That’s the big thing.”
Conner Savant (328), Steve Rybolt (325), Mike McDonnell (307) and Jake Rickord (298) pitched in for the Bengals.
