High School/Local College Sports Roundup for Dec. 8, 2012

Wrestling

Romeoville duals: Kyle Rodriguez (132) recorded three pins in leading Lincoln-Way West over Wilmington 51-15, Lemont 57-21 and Bishop McNamara 69-6. Lance Perly (120) and Matt Ryan (126) added victories via fall and decision for the Warriors.

Lockport duals: Nick Lukanich (106) and Kenny Condon (160) prevailed by fall as Marist beat Lockport 47-18 to complete an undefeated run in the eight-team meet. The RedHawks also bested Lyons 51-14 and Hubbard 63-3. Brian Rossi (113), Dan Radcliffe (126) and Austin Strzelczyk (132) won three times apiece for Lockport, which defeated Bradley 44-18 and Wheaton North 40-18. Argo won two of its three duals, beating Hubbard 66-12 and Naperville Central 36-34 in addition to losing to Lyons 69-6.

Niles West quadrangular: Tino Arbaca (106) won three times for Reavis, which beat Rolling Meadows 30-18 but lost to Niles West 45-25 and Mundelein 46-15. Javier Vasquez (113) and Sam Almousa (138) joined Arbaca as three-match winners for the Rams.

Bremen quadrangular: Oak Forest swept the South Suburban meet, beating Tinley Park 42-24, Bremen 69-0 and Hillcrest 57-0. Tinley Park was second, besting Hillcrest 55-12 and Bremen 48-24. In the remaining dual, Bremen topped Hillcrest 51-24.

Downers Grove South Invitational: Toby Lee (152), Dominique Taylor (160) and Johnnie Foster (182) won championships for Bloom (184.5), which finished sixth in the nine-team meet.

Pontiac Invitational: Drew Everett won the title at 152 pounds in helping Oak Lawn (102.5) place sixth out of 16 teams. Seventh-place Thornwood (96.5) produced the 195-pound champion in Dwayne Franklin.

Boys Basketball

Lyons 68, Sandburg 42: Niko Cahue scored a team-best 13 points for Sandburg (0-7) in Orland Park.

Seton 48, Akron (Ohio) St. Vincent-St. Mary 45: Mark Weems netted 17 points and Alex Foser tacked on 16 points and nine rebounds to guide Seton (5-4) in Youngstown, Ohio.

Girls Basketball

Fenwick 99, No. 2 Marist 97 (OT): JeTaun Rouse’s 37 points paced host Marist (8-1, 1-1) in the East Suburban Catholic. Leah Bolton and Bria Stallworth chipped in 23 and 20 points, respectively, for the RedHawks.

Bremen 53, Mount Assisi 43: Maggie Hayes poured in 18 points to lead visiting Bremen (3-6).

Chi-Town Showdown

No. 1 Marian Catholic 54, St. Louis Miller 51 (OT): Ashton Millender finished with 15 points to pace Marian Catholic (8-0). Teniya Page added 13 points for the Spartans in the contest at Young.

Mishawauka (Ind.) Penn 52, No. 3 Morgan Park 47: Kierra Graves scored 14 points to lead Morgan Park (3-1).

No. 8 Mother McAuley 82, Westinghouse 49: Alyssa Siwek netted 22 points for Mother McAuley (7-2).

Boys Bowling

St. Laurence 2,437, St. Joseph 2,308: Andy Zarnowski (211 game) and Anthony Malec (201) led St. Laurence in the Catholic League meet at Stardust Bowl.

Lincoln-Way East Invitational: Andrew had a six-game pinfall total of 6,329 in winning first place at Thunder Bowl. Minooka (6,137) was second, followed by Lockport (6,124), Oak Lawn (6,017) and Bolingbrook (5,872).

Boys Cross Country

Foot Locker Championships National Finals: Beecher’s Grant Nykaza — the reigning Class 1A state champion — finished 26th (15 minutes, 49.2 seconds) in the 5-kilometer race in San Diego. Edward Cheserek, of Newark, N.J., repeated as champion with a time of 14.57.

Men’s Basketball

St. Xavier 76, Purdue-Calumet 61: Brad Karp led all players with 28 points and 10 rebounds to spark visiting St. Xavier (7-3, 7-2) in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Women’s Basketball

Purdue-Calumet 85, St. Xavier 70: Suzie Broski and Caitlin McMahon had 12 points apiece for visiting St. Xavier (7-2, 7-2) in the CCAC.
