This week we shine the spotlight on: Homewood-Flossmoor gymnast Angel Duncan, Shepard bowler Mike Albrecht, Sandburg bowler Alyssa Pinkos and Rich Central wrestler Nkosi Moody.
Angel Duncan
So. Gymnastics, H-F
Duncan wasn’t sure what she was getting into when, more than 10 years ago, an aunt asked her if she wanted to try gymnastics.
“I said ‘What is that?’ Duncan said. “She said ‘You can flip and tumble’ and I said ‘Oh, yeah, I’ll try it,’ and I loved it ever since.”
She said she is enjoying the high school experience.
“It’s not as intense as club and you have a little more freedom,” she said. “Our team has improved a lot this year. I’m proud to be with them.”

Mike Albrecht

Albrecht finished second Jan. 12 in the South Suburban Red tournament, 11 pins behind Argo’s Gerald Regep. “It was definitely memorable,” he said. “It was a standout day, but as much a disappointment, too. I wanted to win it, of course.”
Albrecht has helped the Astros to a 10-3 record in duals thus far this season.
“It’s been a good year overall,” he said. “There are always things you can work on and improve, though.”

Alyssa Pinkos

Pinkos helped the Eagles make it to state last season.
“(Teammates) Nicole Powell and Nicole Anderson and I have been best friends for a while,” she said. “So getting to go to state together and experience it was just awesome.”
Pinkos is hoping for a return trip.
“It’s going to take a lot of work, but I think we can do it again,” she said.
Off the lanes, Pinkos considers herself “a country girl.”
“I love my Jason Aldean and Rascal Flatts,” she said.

Nkosi Moody
Sr., Wrestling, Rich C.
Moody hasn’t forgotten last season’s loss to Montini’s Tommy Pawelski in the Class 2A state finals.
“I’m looking to go undefeated,” Moody said. “I was 33-2 last year and I had a disappointing loss in the finals. Hopefully I’ll be able to get back at Tommy Pawelski.”
Moody has taken home tournament titles from Rich East and Homewood-Flossmoor. The senior credited the Harvey Twisters for his start at age 7.
