Not playing like a typical sophomore, Bolingbrook’s Prentiss Nixon made several key plays down the stretch Friday night to lead the Raiders to a 63-58 come-from-behind victory at Lincoln-Way East.
Nixon’s jumper tied the game 58-all with 1 minute, 27 seconds to play and his leaping, halfcourt steal with 34 seconds left got him to the free-throw line.
The 6-foot guard calmly made both foul shots, then added two more with 20 seconds to play.
“We’ve all got to make plays,’’ said Nixon, whose game-high 22 points included four three-pointers. “We’ve got to take the opportunities they give us. I was there for the steal.
“We’re all ballplayers. No matter how old you are, you’re playing on varsity, you’ve got to go out and play hard.’’
Bolingbrook (14-5, 5-2 SouthWest Suburban Blue) trailed 19-8 in the first quarter when East (8-9, 2-5) hit five three-pointers. Ben Moore (18 points, 9 rebounds) got inside for 10 second-quarter points to lead Bolingbrook to a 35-31 halftime advantage.
Kenny Williams finished with 12 points and seven rebounds for Bolingbrook.
Chris DeRubertis led East with 19 points and Mike Moss had 11.
