State Cheerleading: Marist leads large-school division after prelims

Marist had the top score during Friday’s preliminary round in the large-school division at the State Competitive Cheerleading Meet in Bloomington.
The RedHawks’ mark of 91.52 was slightly better than that of second-place and reigning state champion Sandburg (91.28). Teams with the 10 best scores in each class advance to the finals Saturday at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.
Fifth-place Lincoln-Way East (89.86), sixth-place Providence (89.78) and No. 9 Lockport (88.56) were the remaining area qualifiers in the large-school competition.
Lemont (89.66) was the leader in the medium-school ranks, with Oak Forest (87.24) third and Bremen (85.46) ninth.
Rich Central (89.08) is aiming for its second consecutive state crown in the coed division. The Olympians ended the day second behind Buffalo Grove (91.72).
