Boys Basketball

No. 4 Bloom 67, Leo 41: Dejahown Freeman poured in 16 points and Jared Johnson added 11 to spark host Bloom (19-3).

Rich Central 51, Rich South 42: McKinley Marseille scored 18 points and grabbed six rebounds to lift visiting Rich Central (9-12, 4-3) in the Southland. Jamaal Murray chipped in nine points and 10 rebounds for the Olympians. Demetri Strickland led Rich South (9-11, 3-4) with eight points and eight rebounds.

Kenwood 55, Mount Carmel 51: Christian Searles tossed in 25 points for host Mount Carmel (10-13).

Batavia Night of Hoops

De La Salle 59, Batavia 47: Brandon Hutton scored 16 points to pace De La Salle (14-6).

Girls Basketball

No. 1 Marian Catholic 63, Benet 56: Ashton Millender had 15 points and four assists to pace host Marian Catholic (25-1, 8-0) in the East Suburban Catholic. Kauai Bradley added 13 points, six rebounds and three blocked shots for the Spartans.

No. 4 Marist 64, Providence 47: JeTaun Rouse netted 29 points and Leah Bolton scored 15 to lead visiting Marist (19-8, 5-2) in the East Suburban Catholic. Mary Fashingbauer had 11 points and Karly Tinervia added 10 for Providence (11-16, 1-7).

GCAC White Tournament

Seton 62, De La Salle 43: Tiffany Ellis was 6-of-8 on three-pointers and finished with a team-high 20 points in powering Seton (20-8) to the championship at Trinity. Ebony Bailey tacked on 19 points and 16 rebounds for the Sting.

Girls Bowling

Bremen Sectional: Medalist Nicole Powell (1,469) directed Sandburg (5,491) to a first-place showing ahead of runner-up and fellow state qualifier T.F. South (5,401) at Oak Forest Bowl. Oak Lawn’s Shannon McGuire (1,232) and T.F. North’s Kadejah Stephens (1,220) garnered individual spots in the state finals after coming in second and third, respectively. T.F. South’s Kaila Garcia (1,210) was fourth.

Plainfield North Sectional: Lemont’s Kyra Udziela (1,310) secured an individual berth in the state finals. The Indians (5,902) were third in the team standings behind state qualifiers Oswego East (6,582) and Waubonsie Valley (6,530) at Echo Lanes in Morris.

Reavis Sectional: Glenbard East (5,777) and runner-up Hinsdale South (5,267) qualified for the state meet. Reavis (5,142) came in fourth and Argo (4,875) sixth among the 13 teams at El-Mar Bowl. Reavis’ Ashley Kouba (1,106) was the top area competitor, finishing 12th.

Wrestling

Class 3A Joliet Central Individual Regional: Ronald Triche finished atop the field at 113 pounds in guiding Providence (111) to a third-place finish behind Minooka (188.50) and Bradley (156).

Class 3A Mount Carmel Individual Regional: St. Rita (248) outscored Mount Carmel (196) and Brother Rice (140) to capture the championship. Mike Falco (126), Michael O’Connor (132), Jack Sears (170) and Keith McGee (220) were among the eight weight class winners for St. Rita, which advanced all 14 of its wrestlers to the sectional round. Mount Carmel was led by Bryce Brill, who improved to 41-0 by prevailing at 145 pounds. Jake Tucker (120) and Notay Jackson (152) also secured crowns for the Caravan, which put 11 individuals in the sectional. Rudy Yates, of Brother Rice, upped his mark to 34-0 by winning the 106-pound class.

Class 2A Tinley Park Individual Regional: Lincoln-Way West (250.50) produced seven champions in besting second-place Oak Forest (137.50) and No. 3 finisher Tinley Park (133). Kyle Ruettiger (113), Kyle Rodriguez (132), LaVonte Blackful (138) and Cody Pedigo (160) were among the winners for the first-place Warriors, who had 11 wrestlers qualify for the sectional. Remaining titlists included Rich Central’s Nkosi Moody (106), Rich East’s Kenneth Naylor (170), Lemont’s Chris Giatras (182), Rich South’s Roy Hickman (195), Oak Forest’s Alec Brown (220) and Marian Catholic’s Jason Kaminski (heavyweight).

Class 2A Riverside-Brookfield Individual Regional: Mike Triner (160) and Frank Tomaskovic (285) notched championships for St. Laurence (143.50), which was fourth in the meet won by Riverside-Brookfield (176.50).

Class 1A Peotone Individual Regional: Zach Groen (37-0) won the 170-pound title and teammate Mike Waldmarson earned top honors in the 152-pound division as Illiana Christian (121) took third behind Peotone (193) and Manteno (192.50). Carlton Brown was tops at 113 pounds in helping Ag. Science (70.50) finish sixth.

Boys Swimming

SouthWest Suburban Red Meet: Jake Pearson and Tony Mikrut each placed first in four events in powering host Lincoln-Way North (297) to the team title over runner-up Stagg (280) and third-place occupant Andrew (276). Pearson won the 100-yard freestyle (48.01 seconds) and 200 freestyle (1 minute, 44.37 seconds), while Mikrut was first in the 50 free (22.06) and 100 butterfly (52.47). The two also helped the Phoenix prevail in the 200 medley relay (1:38.31) and 400 free relay (3:16.13). Andrew won the 200 free relay (1:29.94) with the assistance of Kyle Fitzgerald, Dan Cavato, Zach Rentner and Rick Osty. Stagg’s Dominic Senese prevailed in 1-meter diving (395.60 points).

South Suburban Red Meet: Matt Blicharski won the 200 free (1:57.03) and 500 free (5:12.84) in leading Reavis (272) to a first-place finish over Shepard (257). Evergreen Park and Richards (207 each) tied for third in the meet at Oak Lawn. Blicharski also helped the Rams prevail in the 200 medley relay (1:50) and 400 free relay (3:37.19). Remaining event winners included Evergreen Park’s Mitch Easterhouse in the 50 free (23.85), Richards’ Neil Slowinski in the 100 backstroke (1:00.04) and the Shepard foursome of Tommy Eyer, Mitch Pearl, Zach Sierzega and Sanders Yu in the 200 free relay (1:38.01).

Girls Gymnastics

Oswego Regional: The top five individuals in each event qualified for the sectional round. Lincoln-Way co-op was led by Kaila Pohrte, who placed first on the vault (9.275) and second in the all-around competition (36.950). She also took second on the balance beam (8.900) and uneven parallel bars (8.650). Shelby Wiktor added a second-place effort on the floor (9.150) for Lincoln-Way co-op (139.175), which captured an at-large spot in the sectional after finishing a close second to Oswego co-op (139.925). Homewood-Flossmoor’s Aleigha Williams was runner-up on the vault (9.075).

Men’s Basketball

St. Xavier 94, Purdue-Calumet 86: Jack Krieger posted a career-high 27 points to go along with 10 rebounds for host St. Xavier (22-4, 18-2) in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference. Roosevelt Green added 24 points for the Cougars.

South Suburban 97, Black Hawk 56: Michael Harris put up 36 points and six rebounds to pace host South Suburban (21-2). Bryce Walker added 23 points for the Bulldogs.

Women’s Basketball

Purdue-Calumet 87, St. Xavier 81: Chrissy Heine scored a personal-best 22 points and also grabbed seven rebounds to lead host St. Xavier (21-4, 15-4) in the CCAC. Jordan Brandt (15 points) and Suzie Broski (11 points, 10 rebounds) also starred for the Cougars, who had their 14-game winning streak snapped.
