Megan Walsh, 18, of Chicago’s Beverly community, is in her third year as a forward on the Spartans varsity.
The Marian Catholic student will attend Truman State University.
What attracted you to Marian?
Just the coach (Annie Byrne) and the atmosphere Marian has and definitely Marian’s tradition.
What’s it like being a captain for a program as prestigious as Marian’s?
It feels pretty good. I feel that the captains I had — Emily Kobel, Simone Law and Jasmine Matthews — they helped me become the captain that I am.
What’s your favorite part about the game?
The contact. I like being aggressive. I like being in the post and getting in there and banging with people.
Which non-Marian player would you just love to have as a teammate?
Alyssa Siwek from McAuley. She just never gives up and is an awesome player.
Do you have any habits you’d like to break?
Biting my nails. I do that a lot when I’m nervous.
What annoys you more than anything else?
Attitudes. I don’t like when people are negative or angry.
What hidden talent do you have?
I’m a pretty good dancer.
You’re going to the biggest dance of the year. What do you wear?
A dress with a little poof, longer, and definitely purple, maybe pink.
Your dream celebrity prom date?
Probably Mark Wahlberg, from “Ted.” He’s really cute.
What does your mirror reflect about yourself?
That I’m an outgoing, carefree person who likes to have fun.
Has anyone told you that you look like someone famous?
I’ve been told that I look like Missy Franklin, the Olympic swimmer.
What would you never post on Facebook?
Probably something bad about somebody else.
What’s your earliest childhood memory?
Probably swimming at my grandma’s pool. We used to go there all the time. I think the best was when we’d clean it out we’d make a big slip ‘n slide at the end.
The team is coming over for dinner. What’s on the menu?
Mac and cheese. I can’t really cook at all, but I make good mac and cheese.
Any interesting stories behind your number?
Coach gave it to me because that was Kaila Turner’s number, so I could follow in her footsteps.
As told to Tony Baranek
