Girls Basketball

No. 5 Bloom 61, Kankakee 41: Bria Gaines netted 17 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for visiting Bloom (19-6, 10-0) in the Southland. Jailyn Lumpkin and Katherine Strong each chipped in 10 points and seven assists for the Blazing Trojans.

No. 7 Homewood-Flossmoor 73, Joliet Central 29: Sydni Johnson had 22 points and Jaiveonna Norris scored 12 to propel host Homewood-Flossmoor (17-9, 11-3) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue.

Bolingbrook 61, No. 10 Lincoln-Way East 25: Dana O’Grady had a team-high nine points for host Lincoln-Way East (19-8, 10-4) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue.

Sandburg 44, Lincoln-Way Central 37: Rachel Ruzevich scored nine points to lead host Sandburg (15-11, 8-6) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue. Sam Youngwirth and Brittany Munoz added eight points apiece for the Eagles. Candace Finnin led Lincoln-Way Central (9-15, 4-10) with 17 points.

Thornwood 67, Thornton 35: Aaliyah Wricks totaled 15 points and eight rebounds to lift visiting Thornwood (15-10, 8-6) in the SouthWest Suburban Red. Breneka Walker tacked on 13 points and six rebounds for the Thunderbirds.

Richards 47, Reavis 34: Georgia Danos scored 27 points for host Richards (10-14, 4-9) in the South Suburban Red. Jakki Padilla’s 12 points were the most for Reavis (8-15, 3-10).

Lockport 39, Joliet West 31: Morgan VanKuiken had 10 points and Nora Polaski added eight points and 11 rebounds to guide host Lockport (11-13, 6-7) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue.

Oak Lawn 56, Argo 42: Jannah Mahmoud scored 14 points to show the way for visiting Oak Lawn (20-5, 12-1) in the South Suburban Red. LaTondra Brooks and Brianna Markusic added 13 points apiece for the Spartans. Katie Krosz notched 13 points for Argo (8-15, 5-8) and Nariman Jaber had 12.

Andrew 61, Lincoln-Way West 33: Tiana Karopulos had 19 points to lead host Andrew (20-5, 11-3) in the SouthWest Suburban Red. Molly Franson added 15 points for the Thunderbolts and Nicole Dominguez scored 13. Lincoln-Way West dropped to 12-13, 6-7.

Class 1A Hope Academy Regional

Morgan Park Academy 37, Illinois Lutheran 28: Brittney McKnight scored 12 points for Morgan Park Academy (17-8) in the semifinal.

Class 2A Hoopeston Area Regional

Hoopeston Area 45, Beecher 27: Danielle Snuckel netted 10 points for Beecher (12-16) in the championship.

Class 2A Seton Regional

Seton 52, Illiana Christian 38: Charlita Berry scored 16 points and Ebony Bailey added 12 to help Seton (22-8) capture the title.

Boys Basketball

Shepard 81, Eisenhower 76: Davontae Armwood’s 15 points led a balanced attack for host Shepard (12-9, 4-6) in the South Suburban Red. Adam Samad added 12 points for the Astros, who also received 11 points apiece from Darren Cohen, Londell Lee and Jacob Littleton. Tyrone Terrell, of Eisenhower (5-15), led all scorers with 26 points.

Men’s Basketball

South Suburban 95, Wright 56: Michael Harris posted 26 points and six rebounds for host South Suburban (23-2).

Commitments: Oak Lawn football players Kevin Lonergan and Ron Luce, both of whom signed to continue their academic and athletic careers at St. Xavier, were omitted from Wednesday’s published list of local signing day commitments.
