All it took for Lincoln-Way Central to remove the albatross was a three-pointer from Matt Mikolajczak.
With the seemingly easy shot from the left side of the three-point arc, Mikolajczak was able to erase a to-date winless SouthWest Suburban Blue record Friday night for the host Knights, who went on to score a come-from-behind 34-30 victory over Lockport.
With Central trailing 30-29, Mikolajczak drained the trey, on an assist from Brad Bass, to give the Knights a 32-30 lead. Alex Parks added some insurance with 3.2 seconds to play when he made two free throws.
“I was sitting in the corner and I knew the ball was coming and I got my feet set and knocked down the shot,” Mikolajczak said. “We had a tough first half, but we pride ourselves on our defense and it kept us in the game.”
Bass led the Knights (9-14, 1-10) with 16 points, while Mikolajczak chipped in six.
Grover Anderson and Andrew Gosney each scored nine points for the Porters (6-17, 4-7). Lockport was coming off a 42-41 upset victory Tuesday over Bolingbrook.
