Boys Swimming & Diving
Lockport Sectional: Wins by Mike O’Malley in the 50 free (21.99) and Trevor Winans in the 200 free (1:43.85) powered Sandburg (289) to a first-place finish. The Eagles also prevailed in the 200 free relay (1:26.80) and 400 free relay (3:12.13). Runner-up Lockport (265) was led by Jake Knowles, who prevailed in the 100 free (47.82) and 100 breaststroke (58.94). Zack Amendola was the standout for third-place Stagg (262), posting the best times in the 100 butterfly (52.66) and 100 backstroke (53.06). Brother Rice’s Mitch Strahlman was tops in the 200 individual medley (1:55.91) and 500 free (4:40.94).
Fenwick Sectional: Argo’s Glenn Czerwinski finished third in the diving competition (287.65). Reavis (217) was the top area team, placing fourth behind Fenwick (412), Oak Park (387) and Riverside-Brookfield (349).
St. Ignatius Sectional: Justin Houle was third in diving (318.85) as Evergreen Park (85) finished sixth, one spot ahead of Mount Carmel (71). St. Ignatius (316) captured the team crown.
Girls Gymnastics
State Meet: Andrew’s Jamie Valla was ninth on the vault (8.975) at Palatine. She advanced to the finals after posting a 9.600 during the preliminary round Friday. In the all-around competition on Friday, Valla (37.225) finished 11th.
Boys Basketball
No. 10 Rich East 65, Rich South 47: Russell Wright scored 16 points and Nick Horne added 12 to guide host Rich East (15-6, 7-2) in the Southland. Rich South fell to 10-14, 3-6.
Men’s Basketball
St. Xavier 110, Holy Cross (Ind.) 75: Brad Karp provided 30 points and six rebounds to pace visiting St. Xavier (26-4, 22-2) in its Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference finale. The Cougars also received 22 points from Anthony Grant and 10 from Jack Krieger.
Women’s Basketball
St. Xavier 76, Holy Cross (Ind.) 58: Morgan Stuut had 21 points and 11 rebounds to lead visiting St. Xavier (24-5, 17-5) in the CCAC. Suzie Broski added 19 points for the Cougars and Caitlin McMahon had 10.
