Griffin, a 6-foot-4 forward, is the leader of a Bloom team trying to advance to Peoria for the second straight season. The Blazing Trojans play Stagg on Thursday in a Class 4A Thornton Sectional semifinal. The soft-spoken senior, averaging 11.5 points and 7.5 rebounds, has yet to decide on a college.
Bloom finished in fourth place in Class 4A last season. What do you remember most about that experience?
Being downstate. It was just a great experience.
Are you ready to make a return trip to Peoria this season?
It’s not going to be easy. We have to work hard and not back down to anyone. Defense is the key.
Which team would you like to play for the state title? Why?
Simeon. We lost to them last year (4A semifinals) and I believe we had them. We just didn’t execute a couple of plays in the end. I’d like to have another chance at them.
Given the chance, what person, dead or alive, would you most like to meet? Why?
LeBron (James). He’s my favorite player. I’ve looked up to him since I started playing basketball.
If you could have your pick, what celebrity would you choose as your prom date?
You’re on a deserted island. You could have an endless supply of one food. What would it be?
What are the most important values you’ve learned from your parents?
Be respectful and humble.
What’s in your iPod?
Drake, Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz.
Ten years from now, when you’re talking about coach Jasper Williams, what will first come to mind?
How funny he is and how he brings out the best in everybody.
