Girls Indoor Track & Field
Morton Invitational: Lauren Loomis won the 2-mile run (12:06.2) in helping Shepard (135.50) finish second behind Hinsdale South (153) in the nine-team meet. Other winners for the Astros included Sierra Calhoun in the 55-meter hurdles (8.9) and Chasz Wells in the long jump (17-2).
Proviso East Invitational: Bloom’s Brittany Thomas prevailed in the 200 (26.6) and teammate Angela Cates was tops in the high jump (5-4). Also notching wins were Homewood-Flossmoor’s Jayla Stewart in the 55 hurdles (8.23), Rich Central’s Aliyah Harmon in the long jump (18-3) and Lincoln-Way East in the 2-mile relay (10:03.94). No team scores were provided.
Boys Indoor Track & Field
Argo Invitational: Wins by Quenton Hardaway in the 55-meter dash (6.7), Tyler Whittler in the 200 (22.7) and Quenten Nash in the 400 (52.2) guided Crete-Monee (145) to top honors among the 10 competing teams. Remaining event winners included T.F. North’s Adonis Barnes in the 55 hurdles (8.0), Richards’ Terrance Allen in the triple jump (44-6) and Oak Lawn’s James Lenihan in the shot put (47-51/2)
Boys Water Polo
Palatine Invitational: Homewood-Flossmoor topped McHenry 16-3 and Latin 13-3 to finish seventh in the two-day meet.
Stagg Invitational: Stagg finished fourth in the weekend tournament after losing to Bradley 13-9. St. Rita defeated Riverside-Brookfield 11-9 in the seventh-place match.
Girls Water Polo
Fremd quadrangular: Bremen co-op defeated Maine East 13-3 behind five goals from Hannah Schultz and three from Daisy Lozano. The Red Jaguars lost their remaining two matches, to Fremd 10-7 and Loyola 20-8.
Hinsdale Central Invitational: Lincoln-Way North completed an undefeated run by edging St. Charles North 3-2 in the championship. Sam Klosak netted 10 goals and Kelly Pender made 29 saves for the Phoenix, which also defeated Lincoln-Way East 3-2 and Glenbrook South 11-2. Lincoln-Way East took fourth after losing to Hinsdale Central 6-3. The Griffins opened play with an 8-7 win over Glenbrook South as Taryn Linke scored a hat trick for the winners.
Northside Prep Invitational: Marian Catholic’s Paige Weiser led all individuals with 25 goals in four matches. The Spartans finished third out of five teams with a 2-2 record, defeating Hinsdale South 15-5 and Northside Prep 12-9.
St. Francis (Ind.) 82, St. Xavier 69: St. Xavier was no match Friday for the nation’s No. 2-ranked team in NAIA Division II. St. Francis jumped out to an early 11-point lead and never looked back in the second round of the NAIA National Championship in Sioux City, Iowa. Brooke Ridley and Kayla Drake each scored 14 points to pace top-seeded St. Francis (32-2), which avenged a 17-point loss to St. Xavier in December. Morgan Stuut posted team bests with 13 points and six rebounds for fifth-seed St. Xavier (25-7), which fell behind 13-2 just five minutes into the game. Niara Harris added 10 points for the Cougars, who trailed by as many as 25 points early in the second half.
South Suburban 55, Prairie State 39: Ashley Huddleston scored 24 points to help South Suburban capture a spot in the NJCAA Tournament. Amanda Pierce had 13 points for Prairie State.
Indiana-Southeast 83, St. Xavier 73: St. Xavier also was eliminated on the men’s side of the Division II National Championship, falling to No. 11 seed Indiana-Southeast in second-round play in Point Lookout, Mo. Jack Krieger’s 19 points were the most for St. Xavier (29-6), the No. 6 seed in the tournament. Cameron Mitchell scored a season-high 31 points for Indiana-Southeast (29-4).
Webber (Fla.) Invitational
St. Xavier 4, Webber International 3: Alec Barnhart scored on a wild pitch in the top of the seventh to boost St. Xavier (2-2) in its opener. Brad Myjak, Jim Augle and Bryan Villanova added RBI during a three-run sixth for the Cougars.
Spring Arbor 11, St. Xavier 0: Brad Myjak had two of St. Xavier’s three hits in the Cougars’ second game.
St. Xavier 2-2, St. Anselm 0-3: Katie Houlihan belted a solo homer and Ashley Sullivan added an RBI single to spark St. Xavier (2-2) in the opener in Clermont, Fla. Megan Nonnemacher (1-1) allowed three hits in pitching a complete game for the Cougars. Amanda Hainlen contributed a run-scoring single for St. Xavier in the nightcap.
