Girls Soccer

Windy City Ram Classic

Lincoln-Way West 2, Leyden 0: Goals by Emily Wyskiel and Cori Brennan led host Lincoln-Way West (1-0). Kayla Lojas recorded the shutout for the Warriors.

Richards 6, Catalyst Maria 0: Kelly McGreal (assist) had three goals and Diana Lozano registered three assists to boost Richards (1-0). Krystalyn Torres added a goal and two assists for the Bulldogs at Lincoln-Way West.

Bremen 2, Thornwood co-op 1: Sisters Cynthia and Nancy Avalos notched goals for Bremen (1-0) at Bolingbrook. In other matches, T.F. United beat De La Salle 7-1, Willowbrook topped Reavis 4-0, Fenwick defeated Eisenhower 7-0 and Romeoville edged Mount Assisi 3-2 in a penalty-kick shootout.

Badminton

Plainfield South 14, Argo 1: Jennifer Gaytan (No. 7) won her singles match for host Argo.

Homewood-Flossmoor quadrangular: Paige Deubel won all three of her contests at No. 3 singles as Lincoln-Way Central topped Homewood-Flossmoor 7-1 and Oak Forest 5-3. Jana Mudrock and Cristina Cimeroli (No. 1 doubles) added victories for the Knights, who also tied Hinsdale South 4-all.

Boys Water Polo

Sandburg 16, Lincoln-Way North 10: Chris Thrun had a hat trick for host Lincoln-Way North in the SouthWest Suburban crossover in the season opener for both squads.

Loyola 20, Mount Carmel 8: Louis Vitiritti scored four goals for host Mount Carmel (0-1, 0-1) in the Metro Catholic.

St. Ignatius 11, Brother Rice 10: Tom Dowling’s goal with seven seconds remaining was the difference for visiting St. Ignatius in the Metro Catholic. Dave Jackson and Kevin Mayer scored three times apiece for Brother Rice, which was playing for the first time this season.

Morgan Park 20, Lindblom 7: Jackie Dempsey had seven goals to lead Morgan Park (2-0, 2-0) in the Public League.

Girls Water Polo

Sandburg 8, Lincoln-Way North 7: Sara Dolitsky provided three goals and five steals for host Sandburg (4-1, 1-0) in the SouthWest Suburban crossover. Sam Klosak and Cheyenne DeGraff netted hat tricks to pace Lincoln-Way North (3-1, 0-1).

Mother McAuley 11, St. Ignatius 6: Clare Byar chalked up six goals to lift visiting Mother McAuley (3-0, 1-0) in the Metro Catholic match at Illinois-Chicago.

Hockey

State Tournament

Providence 12, Neuqua Valley 0: Jordan Ernst had three goals and an assist to lead Providence (46-13-4) at The Edge in Bensenville. Daniel Ricker added two goals and two assists for the Celtics, who will play either Loyola Gold or Deerfield in the quarterfinal Thursday at The Edge.

College Baseball

St. Xavier 7, St. Francis (Ind.) 4: Chris Klein went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI for St. Xavier (4-3) in Winter Haven, Fla.

College Softball

St. Xavier 1-4, Mount Vernon Nazarene 0-0: Nicole Nonnemacher tossed a no-hitter and also scored a first-inning run for St. Xavier (6-2) in the opener in Clermont, Fla. Nonnemacher’s sister, Megan, gave up three hits in pitching a complete game for the Cougars in the nightcap.
