Baseball
No. 2 Mount Carmel 9, Bremen 3: Josh Stowers’ two-run double and John Wirtel’s two-run homer keyed a six-run sixth inning for host Mount Carmel in the season opener for both teams. Eric West had one run and one RBI to lead Bremen.
No. 3 St. Rita 16, Kenwood 6: Troy Payton and Connor McLain each had two RBI for host St. Rita (3-0) in the five-inning tilt.
No. 4 St. Laurence 10, Lake View 0: Mike Kornacker (10 strikeouts) pitched a perfect game and also collected three RBI to pace host St. Laurence (1-0) in the five-inning contest. Nate Tholl (2-for-3) added a two-run double and five RBI for the Vikings.
Brother Rice 11, Glenbrook North 3: Pat Kirwan (3-for-4) had three runs and three RBI to aid host Brother Rice in its season opener. Kevin Sullivan (4-for-5) chipped in two runs for the Crusaders.
Richards 11, Scott County (Ky.) 2: Anthony Smith and Eric Hall stroked two-run doubles to pace visiting Richards (1-0). Dan Estrella added a two-run single for the Bulldogs.
Boys Volleyball
Marist Invitational: Lincoln-Way East (3-0) won Pool A by topping Marian Catholic 25-3, 25-10 and Elk Grove 25-14, 25-10. Ryan Vorderer led the Griffins in the opening match with 15 kills and 11 digs. Stagg (3-0) was tops in Pool F after defeating Waubonsie Valley 25-17, 25-10 and Marist JV 25-15, 25-13. Matt Meyering’s 45 assists led the Chargers. Other pool-play champions included Marist, Richards, St. Rita and Providence.
Girls Soccer
Reavis 5, Argo 0: Chanel Koepke scored two goals and an assist for visiting Reavis (3-2).
Lincoln-Way North 5, Bloom 0: Rachel Pappas netted a hat trick to boost Lincoln-Way North (2-0) in Frankfort. Marissa Jones and Amber Huppert also scored for the Phoenix.
College Baseball
St. Xavier 15, Calumet 5: Mike Pokers (2-for-3) had two runs and two RBI to lead host St. Xavier (7-6, 2-2) in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference.
