This week we shine the spotlight on: Julian Hylton, L-W North track; Kim Boehm, H-F soccer; Caroline Foglton, L-W Central water polo; and Jake Zeeman, Providence, Tennis.
Junior, Track, L-W North
Hylton scored all of North’s state meet points last season, taking fourth in the Class 3A 200 meters and eighth in the 100.
“I made sure I focused and got enough sleep and ate right the whole week of state,’’ Hylton said. “I think I did pretty well for a sophomore going against seniors.’’
Asked if he has big goals for his last two years, Hylton’s immediate response was “Definitely.”
“I want to win state, of course,” he added. “That’s my goal for this year.’’
Sr., Soccer, H-F
Boehm is beginning her fourth season as the Vikings’ starting goalkeeper.
“It’s a complete change from freshman year to now,” she said. “I know positioning and am able to anticipate things on the field. My freshman year I was not prepared. Now I know what to expect.”
Boehm said she’s played goalie since second grade.
“I just love that feeling when you make a big save that maybe you didn’t even expect to make,” she said.
Sr., Water Polo, L-W Central
Foglton, a goalie, earned All-State honors last season while helping Lincoln-Way Central make its first trip to state. She has her sights set on bigger goals.
“We’re focusing on getting back to state and getting a trophy this time,” she said. “We just need to work even harder.”
Foglton said one of her goals is to motivate the underclassmen. “We want to show the younger girls so that they’ll work just as hard as we do to get great things,” she said.
Sr. Tennis, Providence
After playing tennis since he was 6, Zeeman will be giving up the sports competitively after this season.
He qualified for the state tournament last year, going 1-2 in the competition ,and is taking a go-for-broke attitude for 2013.
“I’ve been recruited by smaller colleges but I want to go to a big school,” he said. “So I won’t be playing after this year. This is my last year, so I’m leaving it all out. I’m going to go out there and give it my all.”
