During the regular season, she was their top scorer. During the state playoffs she was clutch when it counted most.

Marian Catholic junior Ashton Millender, who was a leader for the Spartans in their run to the Class 4A state title in 2012-13, verbally committed to DePaul, it was announced Friday.

Millender, a 5-foot-10 guard, averaged 15.5 points per game and hit 75 three-pointers in 2012-13 for the Spartans, who beat Rolling Meadows 48-47 in the Class 4A state title game.

She provided one of the biggest Marian highlights in the state playoffs in the sectional final against Marist, hitting a 25-foot shot at the buzzer to lift the Spartans to a 54-52 victory.

“We are happy for Ashton and her family on committing to DePaul,” Marian Catholic coach Annie Byrne said. “It is always great to keep talent from Chicago in Chicago.

“Ashton is very excited about becoming a Blue Devil. DePaul is a great fit for her all the way around.”
