No. 1 Lincoln-Way North 15, Thornwood 0: Nick Garcia hit a three-run double and Mike Rissley added a two-run homer to power host Lincoln-Way North (17-0 7-0) in the SouthWest Suburban Red. Matt Strzelczyk (4 innings) and Jon VanArtsen combined on a one-hitter for the Phoenix in the five-inning game.
No. 5 Lemont 3, Eisenhower 2: Pinch-runner John Simadis scored on a wild pitch in the top of the seventh to win it for Lemont (10-4, 9-1) in the South Suburban crossover. Reliever Joe Sambucci (3-0) pitched three scoreless innings to capture the victory. Anthony Castro went 2-for-3 with a double and a run for Eisenhower.
No. 6 Lockport 7, Homewood-Flossmoor 2: Jeff Pattison hit a two-run double and a sacrifice fly to steer visiting Lockport (12-6, 4-3) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue. Brandon Story posted a solo homer for Homewood-Flossmoor (8-7, 4-3).
No. 7 Lincoln-Way East 8, Joliet West 3: Evan Sandmann (2-for-3, run) had three RBI and Aaron Donald (3-for-4) scored twice for host Lincoln-Way East (13-2, 5-1) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue. Karl Henderson (4-0) was touched for two earned runs on three hits in tossing a complete game for the Griffins.
Evergreen Park 14, Hillcrest 2: Mike Reuter (3-for-4, 2 runs, 4 RBI), Dan Kohler (2-for-4, 3 RBI, 4 runs) and Keyshawn Carpenter swatted two-run homers to propel visiting Evergreen Park (6-10, 5-5) in the six-inning South Suburban crossover. Nick Siemiawski surrendered three hits and struck out 11 in going the route for the Mustangs. Devonte Fleming hit a two-run homer for Hillcrest (0-11, 0-11).
Lincoln-Way Central 1, Joliet Central 0: Brad Bass fired a one-hitter and fanned 15 to catapult host Lincoln-Way Central (11-6, 5-2) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue. The Knights scored in the fifth as Kevin Mampe came home on a single by Ryan Earll.
Lincoln-Way West 9, Bradley 2: Tyler Kopp’s three-run triple was part of a nine-run explosion in the fifth inning for host Lincoln-Way West (11-6, 4-3). Connor Hogan added a two-run single for the Warriors in the SouthWest Suburban Red.
Brother Rice 6, Fenwick 2: Wendall Ferguson (2 runs allowed) scattered three hits over six innings and also provided two RBI in pacing host Brother Rice (12-8, 5-4) in the Catholic League crossover.
Crete-Monee 20, Rich South 3: Chris Cockle (2-for-3, 3 RBI) homered twice and also pitched a complete game (4-hitter, 7 strikeouts) for host Crete-Monee (12-3, 8-0) in the five-inning Southland tilt. Kyle Stancil had two RBI for Rich South (5-7, 1-5).
De La Salle 8, Providence 2: Devin Williams hit a solo homer and Brian Jenner added an RBI single for host Providence (9-8, 3-5) in the Catholic League crossover.
Tinley Park 11, Bremen 6: Marcus Stokes provided two runs and an RBI for host Tinley Park (11-6, 7-4) in the South Suburban Blue. Josh Simon’s complete game featured eight strikeouts for the winners.
Reavis 12, Richards 4: Mike Lally and Jake Aguilar each racked up three hits and three RBI for visiting Reavis (12-6, 6-3) in the South Suburban Red.
Illinois Lutheran 5, Beecher 1: Sam Geraci (4-0) pitched a complete game (2-hitter, 12 strikeouts) and also hit a solo homer to guide visiting Illinois Lutheran (13-1, 3-1) in the River Valley.
Thornton 8, Thornridge 1: Jamal Towns clubbed a two-run homer and Ronnie Cross struck out 17 in going the distance for visiting Thornton (6-10, 2-4) in the SouthWest Suburban Red. D.J. Fuller added three hits and three runs for the Wildcats.
Seton 10, Leo 0: Ty Gaston starred on the mound (2-hitter, 7 strikeouts) and at the plate (2 RBI) for Seton (10-4). Eron Evans chipped in two runs and four RBI for the Sting in the five-inning game.
No. 3 Providence 8, No. 2 Marist 1: Zoe Bruni (4-for-4) and Maeve Garvey (3-for-4) contributed three RBI apiece for host Providence (9-4, 4-3) in the East Suburban Catholic. Amber Wilson (6-2) allowed four hits in pitching a complete game for the Celtics. Haley Richy had an RBI for Marist (10-5, 4-2).
No. 5 Lockport 7, Joliet Central 0: Kalyn Putman tossed a three-hitter and fanned 10 to spark visiting Lockport (13-4, 6-0) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue. Emily Phad swatted a two-run triple for the Porters and Alex Hartney (2-for-3) tacked on a two-run single.
No. 8 Oak Forest 14, Reavis 2: Kylie Powers (4-for-5) belted a grand slam to lead visiting Oak Forest (13-6, 10-2) in the South Suburban crossover.
Tinley Park 10, T.F. North 0: Liz Brzezinski (2-for-3) hit a two-run triple and scored three times to boost host Tinley Park (12-4) in the South Suburban Blue.
T.F. South 10, Oak Lawn 0: Devin Pieper (6-9) hurled a four-hitter and struck out five in starring for visiting T.F. South (6-9, 5-7) in the South Suburban crossover. Daviea Cowans (3-for-4) chalked up two runs and three RBI for the Rebels in the six-inning contest.
Chicago Christian 3, Wheaton Academy 0: Davina Gutierrez (7-3) pitched a three-hitter and fanned 11 for host Chicago Christian (7-3, 5-0) in the Suburban Christian Blue. Abbie Bulthuis and Trisha Belgrave knocked in runs for the Knights.
Lemont 13, Eisenhower 0: Maddy Vermejan (3-for-4) hit a solo homer and scored three times for visiting Lemont (12-2, 10-1) in the six-inning South Suburban Blue game. Lauren Young surrendered two hits and struck out eight in going the route for the Indians.
No. 4 Lincoln-Way West 6, Metamora 0: Morghan Dieringer struck out 10 and Dani Morgan (2-for-4, RBI triple) scored two runs in leading Lincoln-Way West (15-2).
No. 4 Lincoln-Way West 13, Streator 3: Rachael Luckett (4-for-5) contributed three runs and four RBI as Lincoln-Way West opened play with the six-inning victory.
Shepard 1, Reavis 0 (SO): Alondra Pastrana’s goal gave visiting Shepard a 5-4 win in the penalty-kick shootout. Kelly Evancich, Christina Kotas, Aubrey Quick and Maris Libera also scored for the Astros in the South Suburban Red. Goal scorers for Reavis (9-6, 6-2) were Karina Lopez, Naomi Guzman, Priscilla Solorzano and Chanel Koepke.
Brine Tournament of Champions
Lockport 2, West Des Moines Valley (Iowa) 1: Lacey Clarida scored both goals for Lockport (10-3-1) in the Bracket C semifinal in Burlington, Iowa. She also scored twice in the Porters’ first match, a 3-2 decision over Jefferson City (Mo.).
Homewood-Flossmoor 1, Waukee (Iowa) 0 (SO): Fallon Perl scored the decisive goal for Homewood-Flossmoor (8-5), which held a 4-3 edge in the shootout. Kim Boehm recorded her seventh shutout for the Vikings in the Bracket C semifinal. The Vikings won in the same fashion in their earlier match against Granite City. Chrissy Coderre’s goal gave H-F a 4-3 advantage and Boehm stopped Granite City’s final attempt to preserve the win.
Girls Water Polo
Lincoln-Way Central 9, Zeeland (Mich.) 2: Danijela Jackovich netted four goals and Liz Klock scored twice for Lincoln-Way Central in the opening-round match.
