Baseball

No. 1 Lincoln-Way North 9, Thornwood 4: Kevin Smith’s solo homer finished off a five-run second inning for visiting Lincoln-Way North (21-0, 8-0) in the SouthWest Suburban Red. Tyler Gaynor and Drew Korosic added run-scoring singles for the Phoenix and Matt Murray notched an RBI double.

No. 2 Mount Carmel 13, De La Salle 2: Home runs by Joe Kennedy (3-for-4, 3 RBI), John Wirtel and Greg Ploszaj propelled visiting Mount Carmel (21-4, 10-1) in the Catholic League crossover.

No. 8 Lockport 7, Homewood-Flossmoor 0: Evan Matens struck out eight in tossing a no-hitter for host Lockport (14-6, 5-3) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue. Ted Snidanko, Doug Matthews and Jeff Pattison each contributed one run and one RBI for the Porters. Homewood-Flossmoor dropped to 9-9, 4-4.

No. 9 Sandburg 11, Bolingbrook 1: A.J. Giron’s two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth put the finishing touches on the SouthWest Suburban Blue win for Sandburg (13-5, 4-4). The seven-run frame included a three-run homer by Matt Shimonis (2-for-3, 4 RBI) and a two-run double from Alec Nelson (3-for-4, 3 RBI). Sean Leland (3-0) allowed one hit and struck out 10 in going the route for the Eagles.

No. 10 Andrew 19, Stagg 2: Kevin Walsh (2-for-3, 4 RBI) hit a three-run double and Zach Klockowski added a two-run homer to vault host Andrew (15-7, 7-1) in the five-inning SouthWest Suburban Red game.

Oak Lawn 15, Evergreen Park 4: Bob Kametas (3-for-4) slugged a pair of two-run homers to power visiting Oak Lawn (9-9, 8-4) in the five-inning South Suburban Red affair. Sean Miller hit a three-run homer for Evergreen Park (10-11, 7-6).

Bradley 2, Lincoln-Way West 1: Jake Mahy had an RBI groundout for visiting Lincoln-Way West (12-7, 4-4) in the eight-inning SouthWest Suburban Red game.

Marian Catholic 14, Providence 9: Luiscarlo Avila (1-for-4) had two runs and four RBI for visiting Marian Catholic (12-7). Phil Kunza and Devin Williams each contributed two RBI for Providence (9-12).

Richards 17, Eisenhower 0: Anthony Smith (3-for-4, 3 runs, 3 RBI) and Jim Wujcik (1-for-2, 2 runs, 3 RBI) belted home runs for visiting Richards (10-14, 7-5) in the five-inning South Suburban Red tilt. Ryan Thompson (4 innings) and Justin Naval combined on a one-hitter for the Bulldogs.

Lincoln-Way Central 5, Joliet Central 4: Jake Reil’s RBI double in the top of the eighth won it for Lincoln-Way Central (12-6, 6-2) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue. Ryan Earll (2-for-3) tacked on three RBI for the Knights.

Bremen 7, T.F. North 2: Nick Strache (2-for-3, 3 stolen bases) scored twice and Michael Edwards tossed a two-hitter to guide visiting Bremen (14-7, 7-5) in the South Suburban Blue.

Chicago Christian 11, St. Edward 1: Sean O’Meara (3-for-4) posted two runs and three RBI to lift host Chicago Christian (22-3, 11-2) in the five-inning Suburban Christian Gold affair. Christian Bulthuis gave up one hit and struck out five in throwing a complete game for the Knights.

Bloom 18, Rich South 1: Ryan Smith went 4-for-4 with four RBI to ignite host Bloom in the five-inning Southland game. Brandon Hrobowski hit an RBI triple for Rich South.

Thornton 12, Thornridge 6: Antaun McHerron garnered the win and also hit a two-run homer to boost Thornton (8-12, 4-4) in the SouthWest Suburban Red.

T.F. South 23, Hillcrest 2: Alex Schell (2-for-2, 2 runs) contributed a home run and six RBI for visiting T.F. South (12-8, 6-6) in the five-inning South Suburban Blue game. Josh Gentry (2-for-2, 2 RBI) tacked on six runs for the Rebels.

Shepard 13, Argo 1: Matt Scott (2-for-4) had three runs and three RBI to lead visiting Shepard in the five-inning South Suburban Red tilt. Nick Medlicott (6-hitter, 5 strikeouts) went the route for the Astros.

Softball

No. 2 Providence 4, No. 7 Lincoln-Way North 2: Jessica Cothern hit a two-run double and Kendal Judge pitched a complete game (6-hitter, 7 strikeouts) to pace visiting Providence (12-5). Anne Allen blasted a two-run homer for Lincoln-Way North (9-6).

No. 8 Andrew 19, Thornwood 0: Caitlyn Migawa (3-for-3) had three runs and two RBI for visiting Andrew (15-4, 6-2) in the five-inning SouthWest Suburban Red game. Bobbi Gottschammer, Maddie Sherwood and Hannah Thielmann struck out 11 in combining on a no-hitter.

Joliet West 12, No. 9 Sandburg 9: Katie Krusz (2 runs) smashed a three-run homer for visiting Sandburg (10-8, 5-3) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue.

No. 10 Lemont 10, T.F. North 0: Karina Folliard (4-for-4) had three runs and four RBI to spark host Lemont (14-2, 12-1) in the five-inning South Suburban Blue tilt. Emily Durham gave up two hits and struck out seven in going the distance for the Indians.

Tinley Park 8, Bremen 1: Samantha Alberto (3-for-4) had a homer and three RBI for host Tinley Park (14-5, 12-2) in the South Suburban Blue.

Richards 10, Reavis 0: Stephanie Waller hurled a no-hitter to propel host Richards (12-5, 12-2) in the five-inning South Suburban Red game. Emily Wetzel (3-for-4, run) and Sara Tobin (2-for-4) provided four RBI apiece for the Bulldogs.

Lincoln-Way Central 6, Homewood-Flossmoor 5: Gabbie Boerema’s two-run triple with two outs in the top of the ninth rallied Lincoln-Way Central (8-8, 3-5) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue. Quadrea Allen posted three RBI for Homewood-Flossmoor.

Oak Forest 3, T.F. South 2: Brianna Getzloff singled twice and scored to assist host Oak Forest (15-7, 11-2) in the South Suburban Blue.

Bloom 9, Rich South 8: Taylor LaRaviere and Nicole Fuentes each contributed two hits and an RBI for host Bloom in the Southland.

Crete-Monee 10, Rich East 1: Jasmine Frenzel (4-2) surrendered four hits in pitching a complete game for host Crete-Monee (8-6, 7-1) in the Southland. Kayla Fisher posted two hits and a run for Rich East (4-11, 1-6).

Chicago Christian 3, Rosary 0: Davina Gutierrez fired a three-hitter and struck out 13 to lead host Chicago Christian (8-5, 6-1) in the Suburban Christian Blue. Ashley Quinlan and Kaycee Pittman posted RBI for the Knights.

Oak Lawn 5, Argo 2: Rachel Burba stroked a solo homer and Riley McTeague added a two-run single to catapult visiting Oak Lawn (6-11, 5-6) in the South Suburban Red. Brooke Dodson went 3-for-4 with two runs in leading Argo (3-13, 3-11).

Marian Catholic 7, Beecher 4: Alex Nickel (2-for-4) doubled and drove in three runs for host Marian Catholic (10-7).

Boys Volleyball

Brother Rice 25-25, Providence 22-19: Dan Hayes dished out 22 assists to pace host Brother Rice (16-8, 6-1) in the Catholic League Blue. Ryan Paull and Kevin Myren tacked on six kills apiece for the Crusaders.

Oak Lawn 25-25, Shepard 14-22: Sam Bernier (10 assists) and Marc Hansen (8 kills) starred for visiting Oak Lawn in the South Suburban Red. Kyle Joy had six kills to lead Shepard (10-13, 5-7).

Oak Forest 25-25, Argo 21-9: Jeff Sprayberry totaled eight kills and six aces for host Oak Forest (10-12, 6-4) in the South Suburban crossover.

Marist 25-21-25, St. Viator 23-25-11: John Yerkes had 13 kills and three aces to lead host Marist in the East Suburban Catholic.
