Baseball

No. 1 Lincoln-Way North 7, Montini 0: Kyle Ostrowski tossed a three-hitter and struck out eight to guide visiting Lincoln-Way North (27-1-1). Corey Krupske hit a two-run double and totaled three RBI for the Phoenix.

No. 2 Mount Carmel 10, No. 6 St. Rita 3: B.J. Faulker (2-for-3, 3 RBI) blasted a pair of home runs — including a two-run shot — to aid host Mount Carmel (24-6, 13-3) in the Catholic League Blue. Ako Thomas, Josh Stowers and Jason Gasser also went deep in giving Caravan coach Brian Hurry his 400th career win. Jason Kravetz (5-3) was touched for eight hits in going the distance for the winners. Jake Shepski (2-for-3) had two RBI for St. Rita (25-6, 12-4).

No. 4 Lockport 6, Naperville Central 4: Austin Kolmodin (2-for-4, run) contributed two RBI for Lockport (21-7).

Stevenson 8, No. 4 Lockport 5: Ted Snidanko (2-for-3) hit a solo homer and scored two runs to guide Lockport in its first game of the day. Ron Sessler added an RBI double for the Porters.

No. 5 Lemont 11, Lincoln-Way Central 1: Mike Papierski (2-for-4, 2 runs, 2 RBI) and Mike Wisz (3-for-3, 2 runs, 3 RBI) hit back-to-back homers to propel host Lemont (17-4) in the five-inning game. Jake Latz (3-1) and Joe Sambucci struck out nine in combining on a one-hitter for the Indians. Kevin Mampe contributed an RBI groundout for Lincoln-Way Central (12-12).

No. 9 Rich Central 8, Shepard 3: Nolan Bullock (2-for-3, 3 RBI) hit a two-run homer and Jalen Purchase (5-0) pitched a complete game to spearhead host Rich Central (22-3). Shepard fell to 14-13.

No. 10 Andrew 11, No. 7 Sandburg 1: First-inning home runs by Dan Durkin (solo) and Ryan Supple (grand slam) set the tone for visiting Andrew (19-10) in the five-inning SouthWest Suburban crossover. Dennis Vilimek tacked on a two-run single for the Thunderbolts in support of Ryan Forrest, who allowed two hits in going the distance. David Cronin contributed an RBI for Sandburg (19-7).

Evergreen Park 2, Chicago Christian 1: David Kutschke (5 innings, 2 hits allowed) and two relievers combined on a two-hitter to boost host Evergreen Park (13-12). Kevin Farmer’s RBI single in the fourth put the Mustangs ahead, and Mike Reuter preserved the win by throwing out the potential tying run at the plate to end the game. Sean O’Meara homered for Chicago Christian (27-6) in backing Corey Bulthuis, who gave up two unearned runs on two hits over four innings.

Lincoln-Way West 5, Richards 3: Connor Hogan (2-for-3) clubbed a solo homer and scored twice to vault Lincoln-Way West (19-8) in Frankfort. Dylan Eller and two relievers allowed four hits and struck out six for the Warriors. Eric Hall went 2-for-4 with two RBI to lead Richards (12-17).

Providence 8, Loyola 3: Cam Galgano (3-for-4) smashed a three-run homer and an RBI double to pave the way for visiting Providence (12-16, 4-12) in the Catholic League Blue. Jake Godfrey hurled a four-hitter and fanned seven for the Celtics.

Lincoln-Way East 5, Plainfield South 4: Tommy Fuessel’s two-run single with two outs in the top of the seventh won it for Lincoln-Way East (16-10). Nick Bruns (4-1) earned the win and Chad DeGroot notched the save with a pair of strikeouts, the last coming with the bases loaded.

Stagg 7, Oak Lawn 0: Ricky Rogers scattered three hits in a complete-game effort for visiting Stagg (13-17). Mike Farnan (2-for-4) totaled three runs for the Chargers, who also received two RBI apiece from Brendan Loughlin (2-for-3) and Brett Stratinsky (2-for-3, run).

Vernon Hills 10, Reavis 3: Jose Romero stroked an RBI double and Matt Barajas (2-for-3 added a run-scoring single for host Reavis (15-13).

Rich East 6, T.F. North 3: Darrius Gilbert’s three triples and three runs were instrumental for Rich East (4-17) in Calumet City.

Joliet Catholic 9-16, Marist 8-1: Bryan Polak went a combined 4-for-6, scoring two runs in the opener and hitting a home run in the five-inning nightcap for visiting Marist (10-15, 7-9) in the East Suburban Catholic. Conor Funk (3-for-6) scored twice and Cody Bohanek tacked on two RBI for the RedHawks in the 10-inning opener.

Marian Catholic 8-2, St. Viator 1-4: Ryan Waaso (6-hitter) pitched a complete game and Luis Carlo Avila (3-for-4, 2 runs) smashed a two-run double to steer host Marian Catholic (19-9, 10-4) in Game 1 of the East Suburban Catholic doubleheader. Erik Callaghan (2-for-3, run) also had two RBI for the Spartans as well an RBI double in Game 2.

Bolingbrook 11-14, Rich South 1-4: Jarael White (2-for-4) hit an RBI single for host Rich South (8-16) in the five-inning opener. John Kriha (2-for-4) slugged a three-run homer for the Stars in Game 2.

Illinois Lutheran 12-12, Momence 1-1: Jake Kendrick (2-for-3) had four RBI in the opener and Eric Dorn (2-for-3) batted in three runs in the nightcap as visiting Illinois Lutheran (20-4) captured a pair of five-inning victories.

Softball

No. 1 Providence 14-11, St. Viator 3-0: Amanda Wilson (8 strikeouts) threw a perfect game and Courtney Pych walloped a grand slam to help visiting Providence (21-7, 13-5) capture its second five-inning victory in the East Suburban Catholic. Jessica Jatis belted a grand slam in the opener for the Celtics — one of four homers in the game — and Kendal Judge (2-hitter, 6 strikeouts) went the distance. Morgan Greenwood added solo homers in both contests for Providence as she finished the day 4-for-7 with five RBI.

No. 2 Marist 10-10, Carmel 5-0: Madison Naujokas hit for the cycle in going 7-for-7 on the day for visiting Marist (18-9, 9-6) in the East Suburban Catholic.

No. 5 Lincoln-Way East 15, Hinsdale South 1: Jenny Van Geertry (2-for-3, 3 runs) and Juell Hodges (2-for-3, 2 runs) swatted three-run homers to power Lincoln-Way East (16-5) in the five-inning game at Lincoln-Way North. Sarah Esposito pitched four innings of one-hit, one-run ball for the Griffins.

No. 6 Andrew 5, No. 9 Oak Forest 4: Shannon Flaherty’s RBI single in the top of the fifth capped a four-run rally for Andrew (22-6). Jenna Lenza drilled a two-run homer earlier in the frame for the Thunderbolts that tied the score. Alyssa Johnson (1-for-2) had three RBI for Oak Forest (19-11) and Kylie Powers (2-for-2, 2 runs) added a solo homer.

Plainfield Central 8-12, No. 7 Lockport 2-3: Sarah Hillebold and Brittany Bickelman posted RBI for Lockport (19-12) in the opener. Carly Dundee added two hits and a run for the Porters. Sarah DeMasi was the standout for Lockport in Game 2, posting a pair of RBI.

No. 8 Lincoln-Way North 11, Hinsdale South 6: Sam Pietruszynski (2-for-4, 4 RBI) hit a two-run single and Nina Tholl (2-for-4, 3 RBI) chipped in a two-run double to catapult Lincoln-Way North (16-6).

Downers Grove North 6, No. 10 Lemont 1: Lauren May went 2-for-3 with an RBI single to pace visiting Lemont (19-5).

Beecher 6, Morris 1: Savannah Soppet (3-for-4) knocked in three runs to spur visiting Beecher (25-6).

Chicago Christian 7, Reavis 5: Megan Glynn (3-for-4) finished with a run and three RBI for host Chicago Christian (15-8).

Rich East 15, Rich Central 0: Cayla Brown starred on the mound (9 strikeouts) and at the plate (2-for-4, 2 runs, 2 RBI) for visiting Rich East (6-16, 3-10) in the five-inning Southland tilt.

Joliet West 9, Shepard 0: Melissa Kelly, Breanna Graffeo and Dominique Tanchez garnered one hit apiece for visiting Shepard (18-7).

T.F. South 6, Illiana Christian 2: Devin Pieper allowed three hits and struck out eight in pitching a complete game for T.F. South (13-11) at the Lansing Sports Complex.

Sandburg 7-0, Lake Park 4-3: Candice Koch’s three-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the ninth lifted Sandburg (15-13) in the opener. Sarah Herold (5-hitter, 7 strikeouts) pitched a complete game for the Eagles in addition to scoring three runs. Nicole Silkowski and Rianna Wolf had the only hits for Sandburg in the second game. Emily Griskell gave up two earned runs on four hits in going the route for the Eagles.

GCAC Red Championship

Trinity 4, No. 3 Mother McAuley 0: Chase Machain pitched a two-hitter and Abby Ramirez ripped a two-run double to pace Trinity (22-4). Emily Rux and Alex Brown had the only hits for Mother McAuley (15-4) in the game at Triton College.

Boys Tennis

East Suburban Catholic Tournament: Kyle Scheffers was the winner at top-seeded singles as host Marian Catholic (27 points) took third in the nine-team meet. The Spartans also received a boost from John Kirschenheiter and Chuck Helsel, who finished third at No. 3 doubles. Carmel (37) edged Benet by two points for the team title.

Metro Suburban Tournament: Garret Lytle won the No. 3 singles final in guiding Illiana Christian (40) to a third-place finish behind Glenbard South (55) and host Timothy Christian (43) in the six-team event.

SouthWest Suburban Red Tournament: Kevin Karczynski won the title at No. 1 singles in leading Andrew (31) to the crown. Bradley (26) was second and host Lincoln-Way Central (19) third in the eight-team meet. Brian Moy added a championship at No. 2 singles for the Thunderbolts, who also produced the winners at No. 2 doubles in Mark Sivak and Mike McGrath. Lincoln-Way Central’s Justin Weigal and Phil Hoogland were tops at No. 1 doubles.

Boys Water Polo

Stagg Sectional

Brother Rice 7, Sandburg 6: Dave Jackson’s goal with nine seconds left was the difference-maker for Brother Rice in the title round. Dan Birmingham and Dan Whalen each scored twice for the Crusaders. Sandburg received two goals apiece from Kevin Tunney and Mike O’Malley.

Girls Water Polo

Mother McAuley 12, Sandburg 6: Clare Bryar and Vicky Arciniega netted hat tricks to lead Mother McAuley in the championship. Kaitlyn Randich and Sarah Dolitsky each scored twice for Sandburg.
