Class 2A Seneca Sectional
Beecher 5, El Paso-Gridley 4: Dallas Saddler’s one-out single in the bottom of the eighth brought home Nick Burkhardt with the winning run for Beecher (15-14) in the championship.
Class 3A Brooks Regional
Evergreen Park 3, Brooks 0: Frank Meisl threw a two-hitter and fanned seven to lift Evergreen Park (16-15) in the final. Tim Walsh’s two-run double in the bottom of the fifth opened the scoring and pinch-hitter Corey Miller tacked on an RBI single one inning later.
Class 3A Illiana Christian Regional
No. 8 Rich Central 3, Bremen 0: Nolan Bullock hit an RBI single in the bottom of the first and Mike Hoover Jr. followed with a two-run homer as Rich Central (27-4) captured the title. David Dugger (7-1) allowed seven hits and struck out seven in pitching a complete game for the Olympians. Nick Theilgaard went 3-for-4 to lead Bremen (22-14).
Class 3A Lemont Regional
Joliet Catholic 3, No. 6 Lemont 0: Lemont (23-7) was held hitless by Sam Couch in losing the championship game. Jake Latz surrendered five hits and struck out 12 in going the route for the Indians.
Class 4A Lincoln-Way Central Regional
No. 2 Lincoln-Way North 1, Lincoln-Way Central 0: Erik Eggert’s single with one out in the bottom of the ninth scored Josh Handzik with the run that gave Lincoln-Way North (33-2-1) the championship. Mike Miller (9-0) gave up five hits and struck out seven in pitching a complete game for the Phoenix. Brad Bass pitched seven scoreless innings for Lincoln-Way Central (16-14), scattering three hits and striking out eight. Nick Bechtold was the Knights’ top hitter, going 2-for-3.
Class 4A Mount Carmel Regional
No. 4 Mount Carmel 11, Reavis 1: Jerry Houston (2-for-3, 2 runs) swatted a two-run homer and a two-run double to power Mount Carmel (29-8) in the five-inning championship. Tom Hayes (2-for-2) added a two-run double for the Caravan and Beau Filkins (2-for-2, 2 runs) had a solo homer. The beneficiary was Marko Boricich (7-1), who threw a two-hitter and fanned five. Dan Meskill provided an RBI single for Reavis (20-16).
Class 4A Richards Regional
Lincoln-Way East 4, Richards 3: Ryan Weitendorf singled home Tommy Fuessel in the bottom of the sixth to cap a four-run rally for Lincoln-Way East (18-15) in the championship. Aaron Donald started the comeback with a two-run double and Fuessel supplied an RBI single. Eric Hall (3-for-4) drove in two runs for Richards (18-19).
Class 4A St. Rita Regional
No. 5 St. Rita 8, Morton 4: Connor McLain belted a two-run homer and Jake Shepski (3-for-3) recorded an RBI single in helping St. Rita (30-7) qualify for the sectional round. Mike Costanzo (9-3) pitched six innings for the Mustangs, giving up one earned run on two hits. He struck out 10.
Class 4A T.F. North Regional
No. 3 Lockport 3, Marian Catholic 0: Eric Duzan allowed two singles and struck out eight in a complete-game effort that carried Lockport (30-7) to the title. Austin Kolmodin and Doug Matthews connected for RBI singles in the bottom of the first for the Porters and Jeff Milas added a sacrifice fly in the sixth to complete the scoring. Eric Hurley and Pat Swanson registered hits for Marian Catholic (22-15) in backing Josh Pieck, who went the distance.
Class 2A Bishop McNamara Sectional
Bishop McNamara 10, Chicago Christian 1: Theresa Kraiss’ fifth-inning groundout brought in Davina Gutierrez with the run for Chicago Christian (19-9) in the championship.
Class 3A Mount Assisi Regional
Evergreen Park 18, Mount Assisi 16: Sophie Lamb went 4-for-5 with four RBI to boost Evergreen Park (14-12) in the final. Carolyn Roberts (4-for-5) and Bethany Salazar (3-for-3) tacked on three RBI apiece for the Mustangs, who scored five times in the bottom of the sixth to break a 13-all deadlock.
Class 3A Queen of Peace Regional
No. 9 Lemont 4, Queen of Peace 0: Carly Jaworski (11-5) pitched a complete game (2-hitter, 11 strikeouts) and also batted in a run to vault Lemont (24-6) into sectional play. Lisa Jaworski and Rachel Hall scored one run apiece for the Indians.
Class 4A Hinsdale Central Regional
No 2. Marist 10, Hinsdale Central 1: Brooke Wilson (3-for-3, run) had two RBI and Brooke Wyderski (2-for-3, 2 runs) clubbed a solo homer for Marist (26-9) in the championship. Audra Hecker threw a four-hitter and struck out nine for the RedHawks.
Class 4A Lincoln-Way North Regional
No. 8 Lincoln-Way North 8, No. 1 Providence 6: Sam Pietruszynski’s RBI double in the top of the seventh broke a 5-all tie and Nina Tholl chipped in a run-scoring single later in the frame to spark Lincoln-Way North (20-9) in the championship. Jessica Cothern (2-for-3) and Amanda Wilson (3-for-4) hit two-run homers for Providence (24-9).
Class 4A Morton Regional
Morton 2, Richards 1: Abby Gentile provided an RBI single for Richards (20-10) in the championship.
Class 4A Romeoville Regional
No. 6 Lockport 10, Homewood-Flossmoor 0: Carly Dundee (13-5) tossed a one-hitter (6 strikeouts) and also smacked a two-run single to guide Lockport (24-12) in the championship. Gabby Voulgaris (double), Sarah DeMasi (3-for-3) and Haylie Arndt (2-for-2) added two RBI apiece for the Porters in the five-inning game. Kaitlyn Shereyk’s double was the lone hit for Homewood-Flossmoor (6-20).
NAIA National Championship
St. Xavier 3, Cal State-San Marcos 1: Nicole Nonnemacher (24-4) tossed a six-hitter for St. Xavier (50-8) in the opening round of consolation play in Columbus, Ga. Nonnemacher also contributed a fourth-inning RBI for the Cougars, who scored twice in the frame to snap a 1-all tie.
