Bolingbrook Golf Club, hole No. 15
Gold Tees: 156 yards
Blue Tees: 145
White Tees: 127
Silver Tees: 108
Green Tees: 67
The layout: A short par-3 on which the golfer must hit onto a true island green off the tees. The green does feature some rough and enough room to provide some leeway, but not too much, leaving little to no room for error with your tee shot.
How about some strategy?
“With the island green, it presents a challenge even though it is not a long hole, even from the back tees, maybe 150 yards,” said Eric Aldrich, Bolingbrook Golf Club PGA head pro. “It is a large green, but as challenging as the hole may look, the green is large enough that with a good, strong mental game, you can make a good shot.”
How do you attack No. 15?
“Like I recommend to any golfer, use more club and have a controlled swing rather than just hit it hard,” Aldrich said. “I’ve never seen anyone hit long over the green. Use a little extra club. It is a wise decision.
“It is obviously more essential with the island green. Your drop zone isn’t on the green so you are not only penalized, you basically have to re-tee on top of the penalty. You are basically taking the same shot again.”
What makes No. 15 memorable?
Aldrich: “It is the fact you are hitting at an island green. This is a hole you would see watching on TV at the TPC (Tournament Players Club) at Sawgrass (in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.). This is your opportunity to hit a shot like you would see at a major tournament.”
