It only took one visit to Iowa State for FOXSports NEXT three-star wide receiver Jauan Wesley, of Thornton, to know the Cyclones were the team to which he wanted to commit.

“The visit was amazing, and the best part was talking to the athletic academic director,” Wesley said. “I liked how they have things organized to keep the players on the right path and support them.”

Wesley previously had announced a top two of Michigan State and Iowa State before taking his first visit Monday to Iowa State. Wesley trains with the Chicago-based Core 6 Athletes training group, and president and CEO Paul Szczesny has closely followed Wesley through the recruiting process.

“I was surprised but heard that Iowa State blew him away,” Szczesny said. “Iowa State is doing a great job in Chicago.”

Szczesny added of Wesley’s commitment, “He was so happy. He just said the visit was amazing, he knew right away that was his home.”

Szczesny has trained Wesley for the past several seasons and there are few things that come to mind for him when he thinks of Wesley in the Cyclones offense.

“The first word that comes to mind when talking about Wesley is speed,” Szczesny said. “He is a speedy, smooth wide receiver, a good route runner with quick after catch ability.”

Above all for the 5-foot-11, 165-pound speedster, Iowa State offered something special, which is why he made the decision to verbally commit just a day after his visit.

“The academic support stood out the most to me out of any other school,” Wesley said. “And Iowa State is in a great conference with the Big 12, plus they have a great atmosphere.”

Wesley joins St. Rita running back Tommy Mister on the Cyclones’ Class of 2014 commitment list.
