Lincoln-Way Central 25-21-25, Normal Community 19-25-21: Jacqueline Langer chalked up 16 kills, 15 digs and five blocks to pace visiting Lincoln-Way Central (2-0). Maria Brown (10 kills, 16 digs) and Mariel Leibovitz (18 assists) also starred for the Knights.
Benet Invitational: Shay Millinowisch dished out 49 assists on the day as Lemont (5-2) defeated Hinsdale Central 25-18, 23-25, 25-23 in the fifth-place match. Kelly Ferguson (29 kills, 20 blocks) and Haley Sullivan (48 digs) were among the other contributors for the Indians, who also beat West Aurora 25-16, 25-18.
Plainfield North Invitational: Sandburg (3-2) lost to Plainfield North 25-21, 25-17 in placing fourth out of 24 teams. Sami Knight chalked up 78 assists and Bridget Lebert added 30 kills for the Eagles during the two-day tournament. Providence (3-2) took seventh after besting Marian Catholic 22-25, 25-11, 25-21. Rachel Alles provided 38 assists and 14 aces for the Celtics, whose other standouts included Maggie Turk (37 assists) and Annie Cummings (26 kills). Lincoln-Way North (4-1) won two of three matches, the finale a 25-14, 25-20 decision over Shepard in the Silver Division championship. Shannon Murphy had 73 assists overall for the Phoenix, while Ally Cappel and Casey Zimmerman provided 26 kills apiece. Lockport (3-3) finished 19th after besting Bolingbrook 25-21, 25-17. Kayla Pfeiffer led the Porters with 34 kills over five matches, while Rachel Weis had 45 assists.
Wheaton North Invitational: Lexi Mantas notched 25 kills over three matches for Stagg (2-4), which swept Andrew 25-18, 27-25 for seventh place in the 12-team event. Gianna Petrelli added 23 assists and 14 service points for the Chargers, who went 1-2 on the day. Kaileen Herman’s 37 assists were the most for Andrew (2-4), which dropped all three of its contests. Mary Farrelly tacked on 35 digs for the Thunderbolts. Oak Forest (2-5) finished 11th after recording a 25-21, 25-22 win over Romeoville. Alex Lambros had 14 kills on the day for the Bengals and Sylvia Rodriguez posted 24 digs.
Springfield Lutheran Invitational: Kelly Magliano spiked 37 kills and MaryKate Wetzel added 89 assists in leading Mount Assisi (2-4) to a sixth-place showing. The Eagles won two of five matches, the last a 25-22, 25-16 loss to Lutheran (Mo.).
Lockport 2, Lemont 1: Goals by Ray Navarro and Sean McCaffrey sparked visiting Lockport (2-0) in the opening round.
Peoria Christian Invitational
Chicago Christian 4, St. Thomas More 1: Getenet Timmermans had two goals and Jake Robertson (goal) added two assists to spur Chicago Christian (2-1-2).
Illinois Lutheran 3, Crete-Monee 2 (SO): Host Illinois Lutheran (4-0) held a 4-3 edge in the penalty-kick shootout to win the tournament title. Justin Schmidtke scored in regulation and the shootout for the Chargers. Fernando Aguirre posted a goal and an assist for Crete-Monee (3-1).
Beecher 5, Rich Central 1: Jackson Strick recorded a goal and an assist in helping Beecher (3-1) finish third.
Windy City Ram Classic
T.F. United 5, Cristo Rey 2: Jesus Alvarez and Ray Kobus each posted one goal and one assist for T.F. United (3-0) in the quarterfinal at Reavis.
Thornton co-op 4, Providence 2: Farouk Amoo scored twice and Ricardo Estrada chipped in two assists to spark Thornton co-op (2-1) in the consolation bracket.
Southwest Classic Invitational: Medalist Luke Trent shot a 68 at Broken Arrow in leading Lockport (296) to a first-place finish. In addition, he and teammate Ben McAdams were the top duo in best ball play with a 68, one stroke better than Lincoln-Way East’s Tyler Kelly and Riley Cleeland. Kelly also finished second overall with a 71, besting Trent Wallace of Joliet Township co-op in a scorecard playoff. Lincoln-Way Central (299) was second in the team standings, with Lincoln-Way East (301), Sandburg (303) and Joliet Township co-op (312) rounding out the top five in the 12-team event.
Boys Cross Country
Hokum Karem Relays: Lincoln-Way Central teammates Chris Kaminski and Ben Zibricky won the 6-mile race in a course-record time of 29 minutes, 27 seconds at LaBaugh Woods. Their performance helped the Knights total seven points in winning first place in the 21-team meet hosted by Young.
Normal West Invitational: Marian Catholic’s Cameron Howard (16:07) was second behind Plainfield South’s Dan Lathrop (15:14) in the 3-mile contest. Plainfield South (50) secured the team crown, while Marian (285) came in seventh.
Girls Cross Country
Hokum Karem Relays: J.J. Robinson and Mallory Johnson (35:38) finished second as Lincoln-Way Central (9) captured top honors in the 27-team meet.
Joliet West co-op quadrangular: Sisters Maggie and Kelly Ruane (No. 1 doubles) won three times in leading Providence past T.F. North 5-0, Romeoville 4-1 and Joliet West 3-0 in a rain-shortened dual.
Champaign Centennial Invitational: Andie Doyle was fifth at No. 2 singles as Lincoln-Way East (11 points) finished seventh in the 16-team field. Nina Heidkamp and Jackie Kraut (No. 2 doubles) also came in fifth for the Griffins.
Northwestern Ohio 4, St. Xavier 0: A.J. Pfatschbacher made three saves for St. Xavier (0-3) in its home opener.
St. Xavier 1, Westminster 0: Alex Perry (9 saves) registered her first career shutout to spark host St. Xavier (1-0-1). Morgan Graves scored in the 49th minute off an assist from Monica Chavolla.
St. Xavier/Trinity Christian Classic: Kelli Shaffer had 58 assists and Dominique Aramburu chipped in 32 digs as St. Xavier (3-4) beat Spring Arbor (Mich.) 25-22, 25-17, 25-19 and Judson 22-25, 25-12, 25-17, 25-13. Marie Hackert added 22 kills for the Cougars in the weekend tournament.
