Quarterback David Edwards ran for two touchdowns and also passed for two, all in the first half, as the Trojans cruised to the victory on the road.
The opening kickoff was fumbled by Lockport and Vontae Diggs recovered for Downers Grove North at the Porters 14. Four plays later, Edwards scored the first of his two rushing TDs on a 2-yard run and the Trojans (1-0) never looked back.
While his stats weren’t overly impressive, Edwards was in control the whole way. He had 16 carries for 51 yards with touchdown runs of 2 and 3 yards. He was 4-of-11 passing for 98 yards.
BY THE NUMBERS
Downers Grove North held a 369-109 advantage in total yards. The Trojans also took advantage of Lockport fumbling or failing to field three kickoffs, and added two interceptions. Charles Creamer (12 carries, 87 yards) scored on a 34-yard run and Kyle Leto (11 carries, 81 yards) added an 11-yard TD. Ryan Dalton was 3-of-6 for 56 yards for the Porters before being pulled late in the first half.
“I think our defense put us in great field position to get the win. Our focus all week was great, and it was our defense and offensive line that won us this game.” — Edwards
