St. Rita 55, St. Laurence 14
Tommy Mister was presented with a jersey by USA Football for being selected to its Team USA 19U team by former Bear Desmond Clark. Mister then went out and showed everyone why he was selected, scoring five first-half touchdowns in leading the Mustangs to a 49-7 halftime lead.
In the first period, St. Laurence (2-1) went into a stiff north wind, which significantly hampered its passing attack. St. Rita (3-0) found itself with good field position in that quarter thanks to its defense and took a 28-7 lead.
Mister ran the ball just four times in the first half. Three of those runs were for touchdowns, of 65, 37 and 49 yards. He totaled 155 yards rushing. He also completed touchdown passes to Julian Crum and John Ladd.
BY THE NUMBERS
For Rita, Tyre Lee rushed 10 times for 78 yards and a touchdown. Dan Gleaves had four tackles and John Connolly had four tackles and a sack. Bob Kelly led the Vikings by throwing for 168 yards and two touchdown passes, both going to Mike Sterna. Kelly was picked off three times by the St. Rita defense.
“I was kind of nervous about (the pregame ceremony. I kept thinking about what would happen if I came out flat. My performance spoke for itself. My O-line blocked their tails off.’’ — Mister
