Lincoln-Way East 41, Stagg 0
Host East turned a battle of unbeatens into a blowout with three second-quarter touchdowns.
Stagg, down just 7-0, started one drive at the East 37. The Chargers lost nine yards on a broken play, 10 more on a holding penalty and two more on a quarterback sack. They punted from their own territory, and East scored three times very quickly.
Griffins quarterback Jordan Wirtz was 19-of-26 for 212 yards, and also rushed for 69 yards and TDs of 1 and 7 yards. Alex Kraft (11 carries, 41 yards), however, had the East faithful chanting his name after scores on 3-, 12- and 3-yard dashes.
BY THE NUMBERS
The Griffins had just one fumble after doing so 10 times over the first two weeks. Louis Tiberi and Luke Epich had interceptions for the defense, which held Stagg to just five first downs.
“The No. 1 goal of the game was ball security. Our coaches made us practice the whole week holding on to the ball. It worked out well.” — Kraft
