Football: Thornton escapes with 30-29 victory over Bradley

Thornton (3-1, 2-0 SouthWest Suburban Red) handed Bradley (3-1, 1-1) its first loss of the season after the Boilermakers scored with 6.9 seconds left but missed the extra-point attempt. Thornton’s winning drive ended in the last minute with a 12-yard TD pass from JoWahn Brown to Brian Davis with 46.6 seconds left. Brown followed with a 2-point conversion pass to Cavion Clanton.
After Thornton took the lead at 30-23, Bradley scored on a 2-yard pass from Mount Carmel transfer Gionte Mason to LJ Harris to pull to within a point with 6.9 seconds remaining. Kicker Gavin Patterson’s extra-point attempt to tie the game hit the left goal post.
Brown was 16-of-27 for 194 yards with three touchdowns (4, 26, 12 yards). He had 12 rushes for 34 yards, including a 1-yard TD run.
BY THE NUMBERS
Thornton rushed for 127 yards and passed for 194, outgaining Bradley 321 to 228. Clanton had 84 yards rushing on 22 carries for the Wildcats.
