Andrew 14, Lincoln-Way Central 7
Not mathematically a must win, but certainly a big one for Andrew (2-2, 1-1), which rebounded from two straight losses to get back to .500 overall and in the SouthWest Suburban Red.
With 8:13 left in the third period of a 7-all tie, Andrew stopped a Central drive when a pitchout went awry was recovered by Xavier Medina at the T-bolts 38. Quarterback Jacob Platt then took the hosts 62 yards, key plays a 38-yard pass to A.J. Malzone and an 8-yard TD toss to Daniel Ball.
Wasn’t one individual but the entire Andrew defense, which bent, but made big plays. Platt and Nick Ennis had interceptions, Jake O’Connor a TD-saving knockdown and Anthony Schendl a knockdown at the line on Central’s final play.
BY THE NUMBERS
Jarvion Franklin (13 carries, 96 yards), scored Andrew’s first TD (1-yard run). Platt was 6-of-14 for 102 yards. Sean Studer (31 carries, 183 yards) led Central (1-3, 0-2), scoring a 44-yard TD.
“This was do-or-die. We have high hopes for this team; we just have to keep staying hungry.” — Franklin
