University of St. Francis men’s soccer player Victor Trujillo was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference’s Offensive Player of the Week for the period ending Sept. 8.
Trujillo, a De La Salle alum, scored all three goals as the Saints defeated two-time defending National Christian College Athletic Association champion Moody Bible Institute 3-0 in the Saints’ home opener.
Trujillo, a senior forward, began the scoring with a goal from 25 yards out midway through the first half. Trujillo then added goals in the 59th and 83rd minutes.
The CCAC Offensive Player of the Week Award was the fourth of Trujillo’s career.
Illinois Wesleyan quarterback Rob Gallik was one of three players chosen a Player of the Week in football by the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin for the week ending Sept. 9.
Gallik, a graduate of St. Rita, was 20-of-24 passing for 349 yards and five touchdowns in the Titans’ 48-21 victory Sept. 7 at Aurora.
Gallik, a senior, completed 83.3 percent of his passes, second only to Lon Erickson’s school record of 87.1 (27-of-31), set in 1996 vs. Millikin. Gallik’s five touchdown passes tied for fourth-best in school history.
Gallik threw four touchdown passes in the first half. For the game, his TD tosses covered 19, 10, 69, 16 and 27 yards as Wesleyan amassed 584 yards of total offense.
Calvin College’s Maggie Kamp was named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association’s Player of the Week in women’s volleyball for the period ending Sept. 7.
The Orland Park native had 47 kills and a .481 hitting percentage as the Knights swept three MIAA matches. The Chicago Christian graduate had 19 kills and eight digs in a victory over Alma along with 16 kills, a .556 hitting percentage and eight digs as Calvin swept Olivet. Kamp also had 12 kills in a three-set sweep of Sept. 3 of visiting Albion.
The honor was the second for Kamp, a sophomore outside hitter.
Wisconsin-Platteville junior cornerback Rob Austin (T.F. North) was one of five student-athletes nominated for the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Association’s Football Defensive Athlete of the Week Award for the period ending Sept. 22.
In the Pioneers’ 63-34 victory over Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Ore., Austin recorded an interception on the first play of the game, returning it 25 yards for a touchdown.
In addition to his interception, the Calumet City native finished the game with one tackle, one pass breakup and one blocked PAT kick.
