Robeson 16, Morgan Park 14
Robeson scored all 16 of its points in the first quarter and was able to hold off a late charge by Morgan Park (3-3, 2-1) in the Public League Illini Prairie South. Mustangs quarterback Tim Smith brought his team to within two points after throwing for a touchdown and then scrambling for a 16-yard touchdown with 1:06 left in the third quarter.
Morgan Park’s comeback hopes ended as Smith’s Hail Mary pass attempt tipped off the fingers of an outstretched Linwood Henry on a fourth-down play.
With his birthday Saturday, Robeson quarterback/safety Lamont Barnes gave himself an early birthday present as he threw for a touchdown pass and had a 25-yard interception return for a touchdown in the first quarter.
BY THE NUMBERS
Neither team had much success on offense. Robeson (4-2, 2-1) managed just 154 total yards, just 40 coming in the second half. Morgan Park wasn’t much better as the Mustangs totaled 207 yards.
“No matter what, we never give up. We’ve got each other’s backs.” — Barnes
