Titan Invitational: Shannon Murphy compiled 56 assists and 16 digs over four matches to aid Lincoln-Way North (20-3), which topped Illiana Christian 25-15, 25-20 in the championship of the eight-team tournament. Rachel Burkman tacked on 21 kills and 25 digs for the Phoenix. Hannah Wegner chalked up 85 assists overall for Illiana (17-12) and Sydnee Van Beek added 35 kills. Tinley Park bested Reavis 25-21, 25-22 in the third-place match.
IMSA Invitational: Mount Assisi advanced to the championship, where it was beaten 25-21, 25-16 by Aquin. Kelly Magliano spiked 42 kills and MaryKate Wetzel dished out 90 assists for the Eagles, who prevailed in three of their five matches.
Bradley 4, Lincoln-Way Central 1: Oscar Zuniga scored an unassisted goal for visiting Lincoln-Way Central (4-7-5, 0-3) in the SouthWest Suburban Red.
Lincoln-Way East 5, Andrew 0: Alan Hernandez netted a hat trick to lead visiting Lincoln-Way East (8-4-2, 2-0) in the SouthWest Suburban Red. Sean Sibley added two goals and an assist for the Griffins.
Thornton co-op 2, Lincoln-Way West 0: Emmanuel Barjebo had both goals for host Thornton co-op (13-2, 3-0) in the SouthWest Suburban Red.
Lemont 2, Lincoln-Way North 1: Teddy Trifunovski provided the winning goal to pace visiting Lemont (9-6-2). Eric Whatley also scored for the Indians.
Stagg 1, Sandburg 0: Matt Kois’ goal lifted visiting Stagg (9-3, 2-1) in the SouthWest Suburban Blue. Erick Estrada (3rd shutout) made seven saves for the Chargers.
Marist 4, St. Rita 1: Brian Greenfield and Kyle Madden were among the goal scorers for host Marist (12-4). Ed Cunningham added three assists in helping the RedHawks win their 10th consecutive match.
Marian Catholic 1, Nazareth 0: Alec Guarino’s goal keyed visiting Marian Catholic (13-5-3, 2-2-1) in the East Suburban Catholic. Chris Taborn stopped six shots in notching the shutout.
Columbus Cup: T.F. United (12-4-1) lost to host Manteno 3-0 in the title round. The Meteors opened the day with a 2-1 win over Herscher thanks to goals from Dan Stellfox and Jose Sandoval.
Tinley Park 3, Chicago Christian 2 (SO): Tinley Park (10-3-1) won the championship by holding a 4-3 edge in the penalty-kick shootout at Peotone.
Danny Alejandre scored the decisive goal in the shootout for the Titans in addition to assisting on goals by Sergio Zambrano and Trevor Hadley.
Illinois Lutheran 4, Rich South 0: Luke Egeler’s two goals boosted visiting Illinois Lutheran (13-5).
Lemont Shootout: Lincoln-Way East (305) won top honors at Broken Arrow behind medalist Matt Contey, who defeated Oak Forest’s Dave Karwoski on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff after both had posted rounds of 74. Metea Valley’s Jeremy Forbes and Lincoln-Way East’s Dan Olivieri were each one stroke off the pace. Downers Grove South (310) was second in the 12-team meet, followed by St. Viator (322), Nazareth (322) and Oak Forest (323).
LaSalle-Peru Invitational: Lockport (301) was third and Lincoln-Way Central (307) fourth in the 11-team Large Division at Seneca’s Oak Ridge in LaSalle. The top area individual was Lockport’s Gehrig Hollatz, who carded a 72 in finishing fifth. His teammate, Luke Trent, and Lincoln-Way Central’s Tony Kestel carded 74s in tying for sixth.
Public League Individual Championships: The Morgan Park duo of Shelby Daniels and Courtney West lost 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 to Young’s Devon Mitchell and Nicole Kaplan in the final at No. 1 doubles.
Lockport Invitational: Providence edged Lincoln-Way East 3-2 to finish third in the 28-team tournament. Marybeth Galick and Lizzie Eggen were among the contributors for the Celtics, outlasting Nina Heidkamp and Jackie Kraut 2-6, 6-4, 10-8. Lockport topped Stagg 3-2 to win first place in the eight-team second bracket.
Chicago Christian triangular: Grace Furlong and Raquel Hamstra won twice at No. 1 singles as Chicago Christian defeated St. Edward 4-1 and Immaculate Conception 3-2 in Suburban Christian play.
Boys Cross Country
Peoria Central Invitational: Sandburg Gold (142) finished second to Vernon Hills (136) among the 52 teams at Detweiller Park in Peoria. Sean Torpy led the way for Sandburg, placing sixth after navigating the 3-mile course in 15 minutes, 6.58 seconds. Tom Brennan (15:19.35) was 18th for Sandburg Blue (223), which finished sixth.
Savage Invitational: Mount Carmel’s Dan O’Keefe (15:38.28) was runner-up in the Red Division race, which consisted of individuals from Class 1A and 2A schools. Overall, the Caravan (182) finished sixth out of 14 teams in the meet hosted by Niles West. Marian Catholic (514) finished 18th in the White Division, which featured runners from Class 3A. The Spartans were led by Camren Howard (15:48.57), who was 18th.
Girls Cross Country
St. Charles North Invitational: Maryclare Leonard (18:27.3) was sixth in leading Marist (122) to a sixth-place finish in the 15-team meet. Julie Yaeger (18:41.3) added an 11-place showing for the RedHawks.
Falcon Classic: Lockport (82) took 11th in the 33-team invitational hosted by Wheaton North. The Porters’ top finisher was Karlee Stortz (18:59.9), who was eighth in Flight 4. Alicia Ary (19:41.2) came ninth in Flight 6 and Morgan Bollinger (18:18.1) was 10th in Flight 1, the top race of the meet.
Sandburg Invitational: Caitlin Krull won the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.24) as Sandburg (174) finished fifth in the 10-team meet won by Rosary (284). Anna Girlich (344.70 points) added a victory in diving for the Eagles.
GCAC Crossover Tournament: Kelli Shaffer distributed 52 assists as St. Xavier (9-9) defeated Purdue-North Central 25-9, 25-16, 25-18 and Trinity Christian 25-14, 25-12, 25-17. Marie Hackert chipped in 15 kills for the Cougars in Bourbonnais.
