Football: Stagg’s Pilota passes for 4 TDs in 61-35 victory over Joliet West

Stagg quarterback Adam Pilota threw four touchdown passes and rushed for two touchdowns as the Chargers (4-3, 2-3) kept their playoff hopes alive while ending the playoff hopes of the Tigers (2-5, 0-5).
Joliet West trailed 12-7 late in the first quarter but was driving for a score when Tigers quarterback Anthony DiNardo fumbled into the end zone while trying to score on a run from the 10. The Chargers recovered for a touchback. On the next play, Pilota hit receiver Jack Duffner with an 80-yard scoring strike. The 2-point conversion made it 20-7.
Pilota, a senior, completed 7-of-12 passes for 259 yards and four touchdowns. He also carried 13 times for 119 yards and two touchdowns. He scored on runs of 50 and 5 yards, respectively.
BY THE NUMBERS
Stagg running back Austin Kelly rushed for 113 yards and two touchdowns. Stagg defensive back Gary Kopca intercepted DiNardo and returned it 99 yards for a touchdown. Joliet West running back Jordan Brown rushed for 105 yards and three touchdowns. Stagg outgained Joliet West 504 to 387 in total yards.
