Glenbard East Autumnfest Invitational: Providence (21-12) defeated Naperville Central 25-17, 25-14 in the Silver Division championship to finish ninth overall. Maggie Turk compiled 52 assists and Annie Cummings 26 kills over the weekend for the Celtics. Rachel Alles (50 assists) also starred for Providence, which went 4-1 in the event.
Maine West Pumpkin Invitational: Sami Knight dished out 72 assists in three matches for Sandburg (26-7), which upended Oak Park 25-23, 25-12 in the championship of the 24-team meet. Leah Lane had 21 kills for the Eagles, who finished 5-0 in the two-day event. Lockport topped Lyons 25-23, 22-25, 25-22 in the fifth-place contest. Kayla Pfeiffer led the Porters with 42 kills, 38 assists and 30 digs over two days. Olivia Witsaman aided the cause for Lockport (19-13) with 64 assists, 30 digs and 19 kills. Jenna Brown’s 50 digs and 25 kills were tops for Oak Forest (10-24), which went 1-4 in the tournament. Alyssa Kolecki tacked on 38 assists for the Bengals.
Mount Carmel 4, Carver 0: Dan Balog’s two goals keyed host Mount Carmel (10-7-5).
Class 1 A Chicago Christian Regional
Chicago Christian 5, Beecher 1: Sean O’Meara scored twice to spark Chicago Christian (11-9-3) in the championship. Getenet Timmermans added a goal and two assists for the Knights.
Class 3A Lincoln-Way Central Regional
Andrew 2, Oak Lawn 0: Blake vanBruggen and Colin McLaughlin netted goals for host Andrew (8-8-2) in the quarterfinal. Ramon Gonzales notched the shutout.
Class 3A Lincoln-Way North Regional
Brother Rice 2, Lincoln-Way North 0: Oscar Garcia’s two goals enabled Brother Rice (7-8-3) to capture a berth in the semifinal round. Kevin Myren made eight saves in notching his third shutout.
Homewood-Flossmoor Sectional: Timara Maxwell and Sophia Osabuohien won the doubles championship in leading Homewood-Flossmoor (33) to the team championship. T.F. South (18) was second and Illiana Christian (15) third among the eight scoring squads. Marian Catholic’s Gaby Rosales beat H-F’s Allison Lessner 6-1, 6-1 in the singles final.
Stagg Sectional: Stagg (25) grabbed the title as Nicole Pamphilis beat teammate Jillian Atkenson 6-2, 6-2 in the singles championship. Runner-up Sandburg (21) produced the doubles winners in Priya Sharma and Allia Abunaim, who topped Chicago Christian’s Grace Furlong and Raquel Hamstra 6-1, 7-5.
Lincoln-Way North Sectional: Haley Wilcox, of Tinley Park, posted a 7-6 (1), 6-1 win over Lincoln-Way East’s Hope Ritter in the singles championship. Lincoln-Way North had the top group in doubles thanks to Sam Pietruszynski and Meg Witt, who beat Lincoln-Way East’s Stefanie Hunniford and Jacqui Michuda. Lincoln-Way East (27) edged Lincoln-Way North (24) for the team title.
St. Ignatius Sectional: Morgan Park’s Shalby Daniel and Courtney West fell 6-0, 6-3 in the doubles final to St. Ignatius’ Lauren Woznicki and Maura Lynch. De La Salle’s Khalia Powell was second in singles after a 7-5, 6-3 loss to Margaret McPherrin of team champion St. Ignatius.
Downers Grove South Sectional: Lemont’s Lisa Gawron advanced to the state tournament by reaching the third-place match in singles, where she lost 6-3, 6-0 to Glenbard West’s Ali Bush. Glenbard West (32) also won the team title, while Lemont (10) came in sixth.
Boys Cross Country
Catholic League Meet: James Durkin (15:35.63) was eighth on the 3-mile course in catapulting Brother Rice (132) to fourth place out of 10 teams. Providence (135) was fifth thanks to Steve Sismelich (15:38.35), who earned 10th in the race at Turtlehead Lake in Palos Heights.
East Suburban Catholic Meet: Camren Howard (16:02.25), of Marian Catholic, finished third in the 2.98-mile contest at Midlothian Meadows. The next two spots were filled by Kyle Haberkorn (16:06.77) and Luke Haberkorn (16:08.56), who powered Marist (130) to fifth place. Marian Catholic (142) was one spot behind in the invitational won by Benet (37).
Metro Suburban Meet: Illiana Christian (21) had four of the top five runners in winning the championship at Fenton. Runner-up Nick Fiene (15:41.2) led the way for the Vikings on the 3-mile course. Tony Wondaal (15:54.3) was third and Colin Young (16:04.2) fourth for Illiana.
Southland Meet: Rich South’s George Kemp (17:44.6) won the 3-mile race, besting Crete-Monee teammates Bryce Stluka (17:47.1) and Tyler Bland (18:15.1). The next three spots went to Bloom’s David Perez (18:34.4), Isaiah Quinn (18:46.4) and Darion Wiggs (19:03.8). Bloom (27) edged host Crete-Monee (30) for the team title, while Rich East (74) came in third.
South Suburban Blue Meet: David Mcdonald (16:25), of Tinley Park, crossed the finish line first in the 3-mile contest at North Creek Meadow in Lansing. The T.F. South duo of Tremayne Broy (16:52) and Anthony Kyte (17:00) were next, followed by Bremen’s Erick Meza (17:01) and Oak Forest’s Terry Zalud (17:04). Bremen (44) was the top team, outperforming runner-up Tinley Park (74) and third-place Lemont (77).
South Suburban Red Meet: Medalist Josh Maier (15:33) guided Shepard (29) to first place at North Creek Meadow. Nick Minnella (15:57) was second in pacing Oak Lawn (42) to runner-up status. Shepard’s Mike Evancich (16:11), Nick Heidinger (16:17) and Caleb Washington (16:18) rounded out the top five in the 3-mile race.
SouthWest Suburban Red Meet: Lincoln-Way Central (15) swept the top seven spots in cruising to the team championship at Turtlehead Lake. Chris Kaminski (15:25) led the Knights in the 3-mile contest, outdistancing runner-up Ben Zibricky (15:33) and third-place winner Joey Nelson (15:34). Lincoln-Way North (66) was second and Lincoln-Way West (84) third in the eight-team invitational.
Girls Cross Country
GCAC Meet: Mother McAuley’s Ashley Connor (19:07) finished ninth on the 3-mile course at Turtlehead Lake. Sydney Bonnett (19:33) was 12th and Alexia Leonardo (19:34) 13th for the Mighty Macs (71), who took third out of eight teams. St. Ignatius (32) bested Loyola by one point for the team crown.
East Suburban Catholic Meet: MaryClare Leonard (17:24.30) was second over 2.98 miles at Midlothian Meadows. Her sister, AnneMarie (18:27.07), finished fifth as Marist (55) placed second behind Benet (52). Providence (113) took fifth and Marian Catholic (242) ninth.
Metro Suburban Meet: Illiana Christian (72) put together a third-place finish at Fenton. Alexa Beezhold (19:47.2) was at the forefront for the Vikings, taking fifth in the 3-mile event.
Southland Meet: Chasity Powell (21:18.5), of Crete-Monee, prevailed in the 3-mile contest, crossing the finish line ahead of Bloom’s Gina Narcisi (21:53.3) and Sullibet Ramirez (22:04.8). Rich East’s Janiah Jones (22:17.9) took fourth. Bloom (33) captured first place ahead of host Crete-Monee (49), Rich South (70) and Rich East (75).
South Suburban Blue Meet: Lemont (15) swept to the championship by producing the top six runners, the list headed by Taylor Campos (18:54). Claire Gagen (19:20) was second and Gabby Voltarel (19:24) third on the 3-mile course at North Creek Meadow. Bremen (80) was second and Oak Forest (85) third in the seven-team event.
South Suburban Red Meet: Alondra Delfin (19:20) won the 3-mile race at North Creek Meadow in lifting Shepard (28) to the team title. Reavis’ Michele Lewellen (20:03) and Eisenhower’s Dalila Alcala (20:09) were second and third, respectively. Argo (55) was runner-up in the team standings, while Reavis (58) finished third.
Suburban Christian Meet: Chicago Christian’s Cassidy VandeKamp (21:27.9) finished 25th in the contest at Marmion. The Knights (172) were seventh in the invitational won by Wheaton Academy (59).
Girls Swimming & Diving
Evanston Diving Invitational: Sandburg’s Ann Girlich (320.60) finished 14th after completing 11 attempts from a 1-meter distance.
St. Xavier 3, Trinity Christian 1: Brandon Simoes’ hat trick lifted visiting St. Xavier (6-7, 6-2) in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference. Noe Quirarte scored for Trinity Christian (5-8-1, 2-5).
Trinity Christian 3, St. Xavier 0: Rachael Webb scored twice to guide host Trinity Christian (10-2-2, 5-1-1) in the CCAC. St. Xavier dropped to 4-9-1, 2-6.
