In improving to 14-6-1 with Tuesday’s 6-2 win over Joliet Catholic in a Class 2A Lemont Regional semifinal, Tinley Park set a school record for wins in a season.
The Titans topped the 13 wins of last season.
Danny Alejandre scored four goals in the win over Joliet Catholic.
“We have had a hard time all season long playing a full 80 minutes,” Tinley Park coach Mike Boniface said. “(Tuesday’s game) was as close as we’ve come. I think we’re peaking at the right time.”
The Titans will meet South Suburban Blue rival Lemont in Friday’s final. The Indians topped Tinley Park 4-2 in their regular-season meeting.
“Lemont’s a very good opponent. It will be a challenge playing them at their home field,” Boniface said. “They have a very wide field that we aren’t used to. This is the first time all season, though, with injuries and everything, that we’ve had our full team. I think we definitely have a shot because of that.”
Alejandre, a senior in his first year with the Titans after moving from Wisconsin, has been named an Illinois High School Soccer Coaches Association All-State selection, the first Tinley Park player to receiver that honor.
“It means a lot for the program,” Boniface said. “Danny is a phenomenal player, but the biggest thing is he makes all the players around him better.”
in conference crown
Reavis shared the South Suburban Red title with Shepard, marking the first conference title in program history for the Rams.
“Eisenhower and Argo have dominated the conference,” Reavis coach Bob Morack said. “They are great programs. It means a lot to the program to get that first one for us.”
The Rams finished 8-3 in conference play, with all the losses coming in overtime.
“The conference title meant a lot to us,” senior Ulysses Alcantara said. “It was all about teamwork and hard work.”
Player of the Week
Keaton Klaff, of Tinley Park, is this week’s SouthtownStar Boys Soccer Player of the Week.
Klaff, a junior midfielder, had five assists Tuesday in the Titans’ Class 2A Lemont Regional semifinal victory over Joliet Catholic.
