As a freshman last season, Tayana Wilson was the leading scorer and top ball-stealer for Rich Central. It didn’t translate into much success for the team, which finished 5-21.
She, and the Olympians, are anything but a soph touch so far in 2013-14.
Wednesday, Wilson scored 34 points and made the game-winning basket as the buzzer sounded in overtime as Rich Central beat Bloom 66-64 to improve to 5-3.
Wilson, a 5-foot-6 point guard, is among the area leaders in scoring (19.3 ppg) and steals (4.7 spg), while contributing 27 assists and 33 rebounds.
“Tayana has really stepped up her game this year,” Olympians coach Craig Marek said. “We are proud of the way she competes and leads us. It’s exciting to know she is only a sophomore and how much she contributes to our team.
“Her best attribute is she plays for the team. She doesn’t play the game for her stats or for personal glory, she plays for the love of the game. Having players like her make coaching very easy.”
