Boys Basketball: Homewood-Flossmoor defeats Lockport 49-42

Both teams overcame slow starts as Homewood-Flossmoor (4-3, 1-0) led 8-2 after the first quarter and was able to hold off Lockport with strong defense and 18 points from senior guard Dorian McCraney Jr. to win the SouthWest Suburban Blue opener.
The Vikings held the Porters to just 12.5 percent shooting in the first quarter and 31 percent in the first half.
McCraney scored nine of his 18 points in the third quarter, hitting three consecutive three-pointers. He also had four rebounds and four steals.
BY THE NUMBERS
Senior guard Jaylen Thompson finished with 13 points, including 7-of-7 from the free-throw line, and senior forward Tai Odiase had 10 points and three blocks for the Vikings. Grover Anderson led Lockport (3-4, 1-2) with 14 points.
