Updated: January 16, 2014 6:49AM

THE SKINNY

The game was tied 34-34 at the half before visiting St. Rita (3-1, 2-0) outscored Leo (3-1, 1-1) by a 21-7 count in the third quarter to take control and roll to the win in the Catholic League crossover.

TURNING POINT

After Darius Branch (14 points) hit a three-pointer to bring Leo to within 40-39 midway through the third, the Mustangs scored the next nine points, with Chris Williams (11 points) providing five and Treston Forbes (11 points) four. Vic Law’s thunderous tip dunk with 22 seconds left in the third extended the lead to 53-41.

THE STAR

With the Mustangs struggling early, Northwestern-bound Law carried them on his back. He had 10 points and 10 rebounds in the first half and finished with 20 points and 21 rebounds. He went 10-of-12 from the free-throw line.

BY THE NUMBERS

Dominque Matthews had 12 of his 16 points in the second half for St. Rita. Darius Oliver (19 points, 7 rebounds) and Martez Hampton (18 points, 5 rebounds) paced Leo, while Kewan Smith dished out seven assists.

QUOTABLE

“We came out of the gates slow and as a leader I had to find a way to pick the team up. Leo plays so hard on this court and it’s tough to win here.” — Law
