Boys Basketball: Richards stays unbeaten with 65-56 win over T.F. South

Staying undefeated, host Richards (7-0, 3-0) used a dominant third quarter to pull ahead and then held off a T.F. South comeback in the fourth quarter for the South Suburban crossover win.
Trailing 27-26 at the half, Richards blew up in the third quarter, outscoring the Rebels (2-5, 2-1) by a 26-9 count. Dedrick Shannon Jr. (15 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists) scored six points in just over a minute to put Richards up 34-29 early, and Josh Meier scored seven straight late in the third to give the Bulldogs a commanding lead.
Meier. The Chicago State recruit and senior forward finished with 23 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks. His third-quarter performance included two vicious dunks, one a fast-break tomahawk.
BY THE NUMBERS
T.F. South shot just 4-of-18 from the field in the third quarter. The Rebels cut the deficit to 59-51 with 2:35 left in the game, but Richards hit 11-of-18 free throws in the fourth to close the win out. Brandon Johnson and Donald Stone scored 14 apiece for T.F. South.
