Lemont (5-3 overall, 2-1 in the South Suburban Conference) played its first home game of the season and treated the home crowd to a victory. The Indians got back on the winning track after dropping a contest to Shepard on Tuesday.
Luis Marquez was intentionally fouled with 6:44 left in the game by Oak Lawn (1-2, 0-2) and Lemont ahead 35-32. He hit both free throws and the Indians retained possession. Jack Valone canned a three-pointer 12 seconds later and Lemont had some breathing room with a 39-32 advantage.
Marquez, a 6-foot-5 senior center who lost his starting spot a few games ago, came off the bench to score a game-high 14 points, including 10 in the second half. He added 10 rebounds.
BY THE NUMBERS
Oak Lawn had just one point in the third quarter and Lemont was held to six points. Lemont’s Mike Wisz, who was averaging 20 points a game, was held to seven but had four steals. David Stacy led Oak Lawn with 12 points.
“I knew we won the third quarter but I didn’t know it was 6-1. The game was ugly. It was not an aesthetically pleasing game.” – Lemont coach
