The 1986-87 Oak Forest state finalist team was honored before the game. The current Bengals played like state champions in the second and third quarters to win the South Suburban crossover and improve to 5-2, 2-1.
Shepard had just gone up 16-13 on a three-pointer by Adebayo Ogungbemi to start the second period when Jason Roland drew a foul at the other end and hit two free throws to start a string of eight consecutive possessions in which Oak Forest scored.
Honors go to Roland (15 points) and Tom Shute (14 points), who combined for 14 of the Bengals’ 20 second-period markers.
BY THE NUMBERS

“Me and most of the guys (on the team) have been playing since sixth grade so we’re really comfortable with each other and have a great team chemistry.” — Shute
