With another impressive defensive effort, Saint Viator is 3-0 in the Holiday Hockey Classic after defeating Mount Carmel 3-0 on Friday in Bensenville.
Miwday through the first period, Adam Czarnecki found the back of the net for St. Viator for a 1-0 lead. Samuel Deihs and David Kellner each scored for the Lions in the second period.
“As a team I felt like we were a lot better at coming up the ice and back down the ice together (Friday),” St. Viator coach Chris Lappin said. “We knew it was going to be an up-and-down game, but knew we had to cycle down deep. All of our goals came from forecheck. Our game plan was quick shots and rebounds.”
St. Viator goaltender Joe Herrmann made 16 saves in recording the shutout.
“I just kept communicating with my defense,” Herrmann said. “They make my job a lot easier, keeping rebounds away and constantly yelling to each other out on the ice and communicating.”
Lappin was proud of his team’s defensive performance.
“Our goaltending has been really good all season,” he said. “Our defense played a little better than in previous games. As a unit we connected well.”
