Wrestling: Three things learned

Updated: February 11, 2014 6:29AM

1. Stanford recruit drops weight. Lockport’s Brian Rossi will be back at 113 pounds for the state tournament, making Class 3A’s stacked 120-pound division — with Thornwood’s two-time state champ Kris Williams and Marist’s three-time placer Mark Duda — a little less brutal. The move potentially pits Rossi against Brother Rice reigning state champ Rudy Yates, who has yet to lose a high school match.

2. Bloom looks to extend streak. Propelled by Alexzander Clark (285), Johnnie Foster (182), Dominique Taylor (160) and Anthony Jackson (106), Bloom is gearing for its ninth straight Southland Conference title under coach Tom Tong.

3. Tyler Hill a force in two divisions. The Lincoln-Way North senior will wrestle at 220 for the postseason, but that hasn’t stopped Hill from holding his own against bigger opponents. At heavyweight, Hill conquered the Hinsdale South Tournament and holds a notable win over Lincoln-Way Central’s Brendan Ditchman. Hill’s lone defeat came against Nick Allegretti, one of the top heavies in the state.
