Boys Basketball: Thornwood nips Andrew

Chris Scott converted a rebound basket with 1:37 to play in the game to account for the final points as Thornwood held off Andrew in a SouthWest Suburban Red tussle in Tinley Park.
Rashaad Alexander scored 12 points in the third quarter, including starting and capping a 10-0 burst with three-pointers, to end the period and give the Thunderbirds (10-4, 4-0) a 41-36 lead. Andrew was able to twice tie the game in the fourth quarter, the last time at 47 on a tip-in basket by Luke Hook with 2:23 to go.
Alexander. The senior guard scored 18 points, hitting 6-of-7 shots from three-point range. He also grabbed the final rebound of the game when Hook shot an air ball on a hurried attempt from the left corner just before the buzzer. Alexander made four three-pointers in the third quarter, when Thornwood outscored Andrew 21-14.
BY THE NUMBERS
Scott added nine points and five rebounds. Aaron Williams led Andrew with 18 points, while Hook added 15 points and five boards. The game featured seven ties and eight lead changes.
“I just got my confidence back and got in my little zone in that (third) quarter. Then Chris got that putback and that ended up winning the game for us. We’re going to have to be more focused at practice now.” — Alexander.
