THE SKINNY

The SouthWest Suburban Blue match-up in Joliet wasn’t in doubt for long. Stagg led 26-10 after the first quarter and 46-24 at halftime. Lewis coach Scott Trost was among the spectators who saw Stagg twice go ahead by 32 points in the third quarter.

TURNING POINT

Stagg opened the contest with a 13-0 run —10 points on layups — and maintained a strong transition game for three quarters.

THE STAR

Guard Max Strus, whose brother, Marty, played for Trost at Lewis, had 20 points through three quarters as Stagg built a 62-34 lead. Strus is undecided on a college choice.

BY THE NUMBERS

Strus and Kevin White both finished with 22 points for Stagg (14-5, 3-3). Teammate Jeff Goral contributed 18 points. Antonio Dyson scored 12 points and William Autman 10 for Joliet Central (11-7, 3-3).

QUOTABLE

“We like playing teams like this because we like to push the ball up the floor and get shots in the first 10 seconds. They were going to press us, but Kevin just handled the ball tremendously. Their pressure didn’t hurt us.’’ — Max Strus
