1. Oak is in style in the South Suburban Conference. Oak Forest dominated the conference tournament with five individual champions, but Oak Lawn also had a strong showing, finishing fourth behind two titlists. Joe Robinson (160 pounds) improved to 30-1 while Ahmad Zain Al Dean (152) climbed to 26-6.
2. It’s pins only for Devante Williams. Morgan Park’s Williams (113) won his second straight Public League title with four pins in the city tournament. Williams, ranked No. 8 in Class 2A by Illinois MatMen, was one of four placers for the Mustangs, who finished eighth in the team standings.
3. There are unbeatens here, unbeatens there ... The SouthWest Suburban Conference and Catholic League each has three wrestlers still carrying unblemished records. In the SouthWest Suburban, Thornwood’s Kris Williams (120), Lincoln-Way Central’s Bryce Gorman (170) and Lockport’s Tyler Johnson (195) lead the way. The Catholic League features Mount Carmel’s Bryce Brill (152), St. Laurence’s Johnny Gahagan (138) and Brother Rice’s Rudy Yates (113).
